Good read for sure. Never knew his back story and struggles. Hope he keeps on the right track and reaches his dreams.

What's your end game? For nobody to ever disagree with an LSU athlete again? This thread has been civil towards Guice. Some just disagree and are upset with him
What's your end game? To obfuscate the reality that Catholic High is kind of sleazy?

So because one dude cries wolf, the others are trying to cover up sleaziness?
FWIW, Hayes did a terrible job of describing both Catholic and South Baton Rouge in general.

I am here to give my opinion on something I think is being falsely portrayed. I think Catholic High is a great institution that has helped many people of all races, including myself. Therefore, I will defend it and give my opinion, on an opinion message board. That is my end game

Well consider how racist catholic is, they should stop letting in black students and be the Catholic High Confederates

Did you read the whole article

I don't understand why the author felt the need to shite on Fournette.

He's the only LSU football player that my wife knows by name and when he's playing she stops what she's doing so she can watch "little" Derrius run the ball. I think the butthurt by Catholic alumni is overreaction. He's relating his perception of things and may not be quite as bad as he remembers. I think he's a good young man and I wish him great success.

Why does correcting what you perceive as a false statement regarding a person insinuating you are racist a-hole getting "butt hurt?

Intriguing story. Thanks for sharing.

He ran 2 miles to school every morning for his 6AM workouts before class started?
Yeah okay..
Yeah okay..

I don't like that the author's definition of "South Baton Rouge" runs from I-10 to Bawell, Acadian to College. WTF?

Why can't both be true? This sounds like DGs experience, not sure it is the experience of all black students at Catholic over the years...As someone who attended a "Brothers of the Sacred Heart" institution, I can say I know black student experiences varied based on the individual. High School is a time when most kids are self centered, so it is rare to witness someone going out of their way to make someone feel welcomed. That is not a racial thing, its a selfish high school kid thing. However, when you have your own fears and insecurities these selfish behaviors amplify perceptions...

Derrius is a bit young to understand all that right now, but he will someday.
I'm sorry his world was so bad. I can't imagine how hard it was to go thru all that at such a young age. If his perceptions, skewed or not, drive him to achieve...it's not a bad thing. As long as he doesn't let it consume him along the way.
I like this kid.

Is it false though? Sometimes when someone calls it like it is people are quick to be defensive.
It's no secret that the very few black kids at most private schools often stick out like sore thumbs. Sometimes it's based on how they act, and other times they have trouble blending in because of prejudices against them.
I went to small Catholic schools in Mississippi. We had black kids that fit right in with everyone. Most of which came from well off families. Then we had black kids that were, for lack of a better word, ghetto. They did not adjust well, and were not treated well.
Perhaps their treatment was a result of their inability to assimilate, but other students did them no favors. Teenagers can be very mean, and this can be said at even the best schools.

So EVERY white guy at Catholic was out to get him and an a-hole to him, I don't need to be there to believe this shite.
Did he say EVERY white guy at Catholic? No he didnt. But Im sure when he got shite from alot of people his experience was soured and he felt that overall his time there sucked.
I went to a Catholic school in elementary and high school. I was picked on ALOT during middle school bc I had horrible acne before anyone else plus had huge coke bottle glasses from being so blind. Let me tell you, I hated going to school for a year and half because there was a certain segment of people I always was somehow around for whatever reason. Not EVERY single person was an a-hole but a large portion that I was around was. So I can see how he feels the way he does about high school.
