How about the players taking some responsibility. They're suppose to be the best. Well play like it. They say great athletes make great coaches. No matter how great of coaching you get you still have to perform when the lights go on. This team has mailed it in. On to football season.

Didn’t Mainieri pick the players? This nonsense that the coach is not responsible strikes me as really goofy.

The head coach is responsible for the product on the field. This isn't a new concept.

How about he man up and be a vocal leader when the team needs a spark. He needs to light a fire, yet he sits on his arse. That's the problem.

Own it and use adversity to get after it.

Too little, too late at this point.

The most constant person on a team is usually the head coach, not the players. Continuity of success or lack thereof is a symptom of the choices made from the top. When you have a team like this more emphasis should be placed on locking down the best lineup and winning every game possible. Mid-week games should matter as much as weekend series.

If you lose mid-week games and happen to win 2 out of 3 on the weekend all that makes you is a .500 level inconsistent ball club.

Your post implies this team is getting great coaching. It is not so your whole argument is invalid.

This, right here. And stop throwing players under the bus. They know it without him doing this. How about standing behind them so they know you have their backs?

Then why have a goddamned coach at all? Why pay someone millions of dollars a year under the auspices of running the program and having his players ready to play and then blame the players when they are clearly unmotivated and unprepared?

Exactly! It all starts with coaching and player development. I can’t think of one pitcher over the last 5 years besides Nola that has left here as a better, more polished pitcher than when they arrived on campus. we also have no real approach at the plate. We can’t hit consistently enough to put together several innings in a row of quality baseball. We can’t steal bases or stop the opposition from stealing against us.
