For context, he didn’t throw as many pitches as Skenes in the first two games and game 1 to game 5 was normal rest for a MLB pitcher.

Skenes will pitch in some capacity but this example doesn’t really mean anything.

Ron Guidry won 3 consecutive starts on 3 days rest in the thick of the 1978 AL pennant race.

Competitors want the ball in clutch situations. Skenes is just such a gamer.

Chris Carpenter salary in 2011: 15 million dollars.

Paul Skenes salary: a partial scholarship and NIL money.

I’m not saying Skenes shouldn’t pitch. If him his agent and his family are good with it take the ball and do you. This “but MLB players do it” narrative is so dumb. They aren’t in the same situation.

Guidry was a competitive SOB, he would constantly be trying to get Martin to let him pich hit or run, played on a team with him that beat some hot shot girls team that supposedly had never lost a game in some exhibition years ago, their schtick was playing men’s teams, he no hit them, after the game he said he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to go easy on them or not, he said he was trying to give them some hittable pitches

The Yankees also listed him at 5’11”, 175 lbs. Which, if you ever stood next to him, you would know was total bullshite.

Bob Gibson (Cardinals) won game 7(7-5 score) on 2 days rest against the Yankees in 1964. He threw a complete game. In the ninth inning Gibson gave up two solo home runs. When the manager was asked why he left Gibson in for the ninth, the manager responded that "he had a commitment to his heart."

If Skenes wants the ball give it to him because we should all have a commitment to his heart. I know I do.

Yep, I think he was closer to 150lbs. when he was playing, don’t think he quite hit 5’11” either

For reference Skenes so far

Game 1 (June 17) 123 pitches
Game 5 (June 22) 120 pitches

Skenes has 243 pitches so far. Carpenter pitched 279 total pitches in those 3 games. 36 more pitches and Skenes will match Carpenter's performance. Can he do more? Probably. Will he or will they let him, hard to say.

Bob Gibson was a muther come post season time.

He had thrown a 10 inning complete game (win) the two days before going out again to win the 7th game.

guys were tougher back then, they weren’t pampered, the strength and conditioning programs that they have today didn’t exist back then, most of them were hard partying, smoking in the dugout, skirt chasing hombres
