So why didn't he have this surgery immediately following the Citrus Bowl, again?

Back surgery is always a last resort, and I would guess that's the case here. He's probably tried everything under the sun, but nothing gave him long-term relief.

I've had two spinal surgeries, and I have to believe he'll recover much quicker and better than I did since he's a lot younger and in much better shape. Still, I have very few back problems 15 years removed from my first one.

He should be fine.

So are optimists going to point to it for the reasons for his struggles in the Spring Game, like others pointed to Brandon Harris' hernia as the cause for his struggles vs and after the 2015 Bama game.

Can we just all be realists and agree that our QB play is/will not be that good this year, but hopefully with the new coaching staff and recruits, we have something to look forward to in the future.

Good God what a useless metric.

As your post illustrates, however, any metric is better than a false assessment.

Nope. We are starting a starter from a 8-4 LSU team who is coming off back surgery. Purdue was a while back, try to keep up

To be in spring with new coach.

And because you want to rehab and see if it's better before you ever get back surgery.

Steve Kerr is currently going through issues rt now. Some of the headlines are, coaching career in jeopardy, imprisoned by misery that has engulfed his body.

I generally do not take one situation that involved a different player, a different injury, and under a different coach and applying it to this situation. A sports hernia and a back injury are two entirely different injuries that will affect people in different ways. No, I'm not going to make a black and white comment that the only reason Etling wasn't better was because he was hurt, but I'm also not going to rule out the possibility that it hampered him during the season either. But why don't we all hope that he'll be better having had the operation instead of complaining.

some of you people are asshats. yes, he WAS not the starter at Purdue. but, he WAS competing for the job and very well could have earned it had he not transferred. AND, he actually DID EARN THE STARTING JOB OF QB at LSU.

yet you do not like him so you treat him like dirt. the coaches are always wrong on who they start, right? YOU know more than they do, right?

did you know that the Louisville QB was the greatest QB in the country last year? remember him? how'd the GREATEST do against our defense?

you may simply be a racist and hate on white players. if so, man up. but maybe you're worse and one of these yahoo's that pigeon hole people for life and think that the back up QB is always far better than the starter.

Was LSU playing a guy at QB with a chronic back injury?

So let me get this straight...

Staff announced an open QB battle with an even playing field on learning a new system.

Etling takes 90+% of the spring reps with the 1st team without the other guys having a decent opportunity to show themselves worthy...all while knowing Etling needs back surgery due to a lingering injury from last season. Not to mention, the staff decides to go full contact with the QBs in the spring game.

So now we still have healthy QBs with little to no experience going into the summer because they didn't get meaningful reps in the spring.

Like a poster above stated, it's probably just injections. Not that serious now, but later in life he'll likely need some form of "real" surgery.

Is minor back surgery gonna magically turn this guy into SEC starting material?

Seems over the last 10 years we have had guys that were in the system for 4 years and got worse every year. Was Tommy Hodson the only true Freshman to ever come in and be a descent QB at LSU?

Hoping breenan can put at least 15 pounds on during the summer because he might have a chance to start as a true freshman. Can Narcisse learn the playbook over the summer? I know its not the plan but after hearing from the coaches it seems no one is playing well at the QB spot currently.
Please Lord give us a servicable QB that can win us a game or two instead of one that usually loses us one or two games a year.Heres to hoping

In fact Im not. The fact that I DONT think our back ups are better worries me a great deal.

Its nothing against Danny, I hope Im wrong, but he wasnt recruited to lead a top tier SEC team out of high school. We thought Florida would be a pushover because the guy who beat Danny out was their qb.
