Supposed to be a short recovery

So why didn't he have this surgery immediately following the Citrus Bowl, again?

Apparently O said not to. If true, I'd love to hear the reasoning behind that. But whatever.

because you want to see if it heals on its own you never want to have any kind of back surgery

It's the equivalent of a knee scope. A major back surgery this is not.

Likely so he could learn the new offense. He was able to practice. So, go through spring practice, get surgery, be ready for fall

A "Minor" Back procedure is gonna be one of a very few number of things. Many consider a micro-discectomny a minor procedure, but it is unlikely someone about to undergo such a procedure would be engaged in an intense physical activity just days before.

A "minor" back procedure is more frequently used to reference things like ESI injections which are guided injections using a flouroscope to make certain the physician administers medication to the proper spine level.

The above is not posted a speculation as to any particular person's medical care, but rather as information as to common back procedures referred to as minor. ( In other words, don't whack my post....I am not breaking rules)

So now we are starting the 3rd string qb from a 3-9 purdue team who is coming off back surgery.

Probably wanted to wait until after spring training.

back surgery is still back surgery. If it was a microdisectomy (herniated disk) then thats no walk in the park. I had this a few years ago.
