So the Troy and MSU games had absolutely nothing to do with the team being prepared to play by the head coach?

Like every other Fighting tiger fan I assessed the 2018 schedule following the disappointing bowl game result. I came away thinking 6-6 was a realistic expectation for the season. 8-4 if we get some breaks.

I had to grin and bear it recently when I was somewhat forced to listen to a bama fan declare that every team in the SEC, save bama of course, accepted mediocrity as a way of life.

Until we take them down there's not much to say on the matter.

ETA - it should be a good defense, but the secondary is basically a hope and a prayer. DLine SHOULD be good, but who the hell knows that for sure.

LSU has had some of the best defenses of the 21st century, and you're trying to convince people that THIS one is going to be better than 2003, 2011?

This should be a 2010 level defense, which was very good. I think that's a very fair compliment.

The defense always carries LSU, but the problem is that the offense will not come around, until there are decent coaches. It will take a couple of years before a successful offensive coach is calling the plays. Until then the scoring will continue to be putrid as a whole, especially against better teams such as MSU, Troy (ha), UF, Bama, and ND.

LSU brings in over $40 million in gameday revenue between tickets, parking and concessions. That $40M can easily become $30M or worse if the administration is willing to settle for 7 and 8 win seasons. So how does it make sense for the them to intentionally hire a cheap coach and save $2-3 million a year on that salary, when they'll lose 5x that amount of revenue when attendance falls off because the quality of the product doesn't justify the cost of attendance.
Well, you have to balance the perception of attempting to improve, so that the fans don't call you out on that (and create the profit loss you mention).

Fire Miles, downgrade to Orgeron, but say "we're trying to revive the program's energy". Fans hang around awhile.

When the fans become too restless, it's "time for a change" again. Fire O, hire someone else. Don't go like A&M who mortgaged the farm to do so, go with a coordinator (Aranda?). This likely occurs when O's contract runs out and isn't renewed or extended.

Again, you have saved money vs pursuing someone on the Jimbo/Saban/Urban price tier, and you probably get away without having to increase other expenditures. This buys you a few more years of profits. And now, you're "rebuilding" from O's letdowns, so you have a couple years of grace period where 8-9 wins is acceptable.

By this point in time, Saban has left Alabama and quite possibly a new media deal is in the works, so the field is reset.

It’s not that they don’t care

It’s about Alleva’s ego.

He was fired of being less
Important than the FB Coach, and he hired a guy that would be his guy and he would have say so, and in his head it’s going to work out and he’ll look like a genius.

With the schedule a 9-4 finish would be pretty good - have a feeling this team will surprise many.
Would rather be forecast at 6-6 than 12-2 going into the season. Every “unexpected win / upset” climbs up the ladder vs a loss as a top team.
The defense alone should dictate better than 6-6.
Please, this is ESPN. Do you really think these clowns really have a clue?

If not for media sympathy miles would have been fired for 3 losses in 2015.

But O let a lot of that depth leave the program because, what is it that you said, they weren't going to play anyway?

None of those offensive linemen, you dumb doofus, that left last year would have had any impact on last year's team because none of them were good enough to play except for the one who disqualified himself by flunking a class during fall camp and then leaving LSU to go play with his brother so he could enter the draft this year anyway.

None of that is what I'm talking about when I point out the fact that behind the starters last year we didn't have any depth. If you don't believe me, you dumb Einstein, go ask Aranda or go read Ross Dellinger's spreadsheet that proves IRREFUTABLY that Miles screwed the pooch when it came to recruiting the big uglies.

Nonetheless, like ignoramuses, you morons can continue blaming O for something he didn't create. Meanwhile, I will blame Les Miles because he is the one who actually created the situation.

Also O didn’t go after any JUCO in the 2017 class, and missed on our bigger DE target.

There were no Jucos remaining. If you want Jucos, you have to snatch them up fast or only the leftovers are remaining moonbat.

"It doesn't matter that Orgeron ran off those offensive linemen. They weren't even going to play!!!"

"We didn't have any depth on the fronts because of Les Miles and it's the reason the team struggled"

This is what you just said and you don't even realize it.

If O is a 2 year failure on a NOT rebuild job, Alleva is out at the same time.

I agree with your logic but there is so much politics involved that I think both of them stay even with a losing record this year.

---------------------------------------------------------

Agree - 4-8 and O is gone; 3-9 and they both go.

If the season is going that bad, they’ll both be fired before the Bama game.
