Erroneous on all counts. Flynn has half the talent

Where does common sense factor into the talent equation? I'd much rather be in Matt Flynn's situation than Jamarcus Russell's.

Any mention on how the workout went. Curious to hear the bears take on his progress

It was reported that he had a good workout. But at the end of the day, the Bears felt that he added nothing to their current 3 man depth

BTW Saban started Randall over Russell. Prolly doesn't make for a good mention

Wait, you mean he started a senior, who had previously started games, over a redshirt freshman that had never seen the field? And at quarterback, of all positions? Unpossible

We'll also just ignore the fact that redshirt freshman ended up getting about just as much playing time as that senior that year, including 4 starts.

You mean when Russell was a freshman and Randall was a senior?

Where does common sense factor into the Flynn vs. Russell argument, where Russell was superior in every measurable way?

A lot of QBs have less talent than Jamarcus but are far better QBs. Talent was never the problem with JR.

Talent got him drafted #1. Work ethic, accuracy, brains, leadership, etc got him out of the league.

What does this have to do with his play at LSU, which was far superior to Flynn's?

just being big and strong dont make you a leader or a good qb.

Russell junior year 28 tds 8 Ints, never threw double digit INTS in his career. Flynn senior year-11 ints. Soph completion 60.5% with a pre lasik bowe 67.8 his senior year. 3129 yards. Flynn 2407 yards 56.3%. JRuss Qb rating his jr year 167. Flynn 125.

J Russ 2005 in midst of hurricane season 10-1 regular season. Flynn in the midst of a BCS CG winning season 10-2.

Flynn was a great tiger and it sucks to have to make him sound like this. Would have started every single year since hes left and worked his arse off in the NFL. However theres a reason why Jamarcus was a #1 pick. Its unfortunate his early work ethic but if you read up on it there were a ton of off the field crap-losing his mentor and father figure, getting diagnosed with sleep apnea-which contributed, not to mention the crappy "leaders" the Raiders organization had for Russell as coaches. Lane kiffin? Really? Regardless hes turned his work ethic back around.

Point is: Flynn has a job, JR does not.

There's a reason for this.

JR got 32 million guaranteed without playing a down in the NFL. Flynn got 10 after being in the league for years. Theres a reason for that.

This is an LSU board and people were referencing what both did in college. JR was better in college.

one of my best friends works for the Bears. Called me yesterday because he knows I'm a huge JaMarcus fan, and said the workout was very impressive. Marc Trestman was very impressed. Said he was almost positive an offer was going to be made seeing as they held JR back after letting all of the other people invited to workout go.

Said no doubt that JR will get picked up somewhere.

On the other hand he said Early Doucet was not impressive and ran the wrong route a couple of times during workouts.

Are ppl in this thread really trying to argue that Flynn was a better college Qb than Russell?

That's the rant for you. And they will continue the argument for years to come.

Flynn's moxie overcomes any measurable advantage JR has. He's also better looking.

Jacob Hester = one of the all time greatest running backs in LSU history, but stats don't tell the whole story there, either.

Flynn is the same. Great heart and motivation. A real team general.
