Because it's something you fabricated up in your head. You saw a few veterans interviewed on the news say that (I saw the same story) and you made that up to be "thousands that think that way".

Can you say the word conjecture?

“ i’m not sure why the rest of the NFL players are kneeling”

In support of Collin and as a backlash to the president’s comments.

The Collin people seem to be more out raged at this time because he isn’t in the NFL somewhere then anything else. It’s like he or they never associated action and reaction.

Given the significant decrease in viewership, it’s going to be interesting to see how much longer this moral outrage by the players continues when it begins to negatively impact their contracts.

He has the right to protest however way he wants.

actually he doesn't.

The only "right" he has is that the GOVERNMENT can't punish him for his speech.

But when he's on the field, he's an EMPLOYEE of his NFL team. The First Amendment does NOT extend to private entities. Employers can, and do, limit their employee's speech.

McDonald's wouldn't want an employee showing up for work in a Trump or Hillary shirt, or a pro-life or pro-choice hat. They can, if they want to, limit their employees' speech when they're at work.

Again, it's shocking how little people understand our Constitution.

Reid isn't protesting Michael Brown, what makes you think that? I think you're confused. It's ok to admit you're wrong.

well, the goal posts are definitely moving on these protests.

I'm pretty sure Kaepernick took a knee to protest "police brutality."

The Michael Brown issue was at the forefront of that, wasn't it?

I see people post this many times in these threads. The NFL or the team owner has not limited his speech. They could but it hasn’t happened. So until the league or the owner says differently he can protest however he wants at work.

I don't know how old you are, but this will be you one day. It's not like it's just an exclusive generational thing that happened between the baby boomers and the millenials.

I'm aware of that. I'm a millenial and I have nothing against the older generation. I am just pointing out that they are the ones making such a fuss out of this situation when in actuality it's not that big of a deal.

Whether or not I become that way remains to be seen. I'd like to think I have a lot of years ahead of me, but I try to be as objective as possible with situations like this. I just find it ridiculous how such a small act has made such a huge impact on the older generation, to the point where they won't stop shoving this notion down our throats about how they are protesting the NFL, but the only thing on their mind is the NFL.

quote:

But to be honest, it's not about that. It's about show some fricking respect and turn off the SJW switch for just one day.

I never said I agreed with the protests. Like I said, it's not my life, so why should I try to control others? Isn't the principle of a conservative abiding by the constitution? So why is it that so many conservatives are getting butthurt by others exercising the first amendment?

quote:

I'm sure you talk differently around your guy friends than you would around a bunch of women with children. Think of it in those terms. Same thing. Be different for a day and watch your language(stand instead of kneel). Then knock yourself out the next day and talk like you always do(kneel) around your guy friends. It's not a complex thing to get. It's really not.

I don't think this is that great of an analogy.

quote:

Just stand for the anthem, for one fricking day - to honor those who served and died (blacks, whites, hispanics, asians, christians, muslims, men, women, straight, gay).

Oh trust me, I do when I am at the games, but isn't it funny that all the armchair veterans on TD criticize the kneeling of the anthem while sitting at home watching said players kneel? If you are going to criticize them, you better be standing at your house while doing so.

Why not take a stance against murderous citizens? Way more people of his race kill each other on a daily basis than cops kill citizens. And this has been going on for a long time. Yet not one peep from these spoiled brats.

The greatest single threat to a black man's life is another black man. Fact and truth are hard to dispute.

“ you better be standing at your house”

I don’t think you’re going to fine too many TV rooms where you will see a flagpole with the flag on it or a band playing the national anthem. There is the difference between being at an event and being at home.

When you are older, you will understand the difference. I kid, I kid, I kid!

you have to consider context. Was the unarmed person threatening the cops or another citizen? Did the cops think the person was armed, even if he wasn't?

Remember, cops are making split-second decisions in a dangerous encounter - they don't get to Monday-morning quarterback the situation. They have to act very quickly under extreme pressure.

When a cop shoots someone, it's a massive issue and they know they'll be put under a microscope. They don't get a free pass, the shooting is thoroughly investigated. For those cops that do shoot someone with no justification, they're indicted and tried for their crime. As it should be.

But there simply is no systemic problem with rogue vigilante cops roaming the streets looking for innocent people to shoot. That's just not happening.

Let’s be honest, the entire San Francisco 49’ers football team has been taking a knee on the field all year, and won yesterday because they played a team that’s been asleep on the field all year.

A mans right to protest is not determined by whether another man sees issued that he deems of larger consequence.

exercising the first amendment

Like the other poster said, this is not really in play here. It is in the sense that you or I can say what we want right now and not expect to be jailed for treason because we spoke against the government. But that's as far as it goes. It's not like the players are being 1st amendment patriots by kneeling. If the team owner wanted to, he could make it a team rule that players had to stand. That's not something that Eric Reid would be protected against by the 1st Amendment.

Are you saying that they can get upset about something and express their feelings in words and deeds, but I don't?

I don't like what I am seeing and expressing my feelings WITHOUT disrespecting the flag or country or those who have died to give him the right to state his opinion.
