I never thought he would leave lsu as long as clm was here - was it really over the contract language? I wish him the best except for once per yr. I can't recall loosing a coach to a sec division team in the past. I'm in shock but ready to move on. FWIW his timing couldn't have been worse - but when is it good?

Looking at the state of the SEC West Offenses, we have to get more aggressive with our defense to attack these spread offenses at the line of scrimmage. We only had 19 sacks this year and didn't create enough turnovers. Our bend but don't break defense just so happens to break at the end of halves. We have to get more aggressive to disrupt these offenses trying to rely on coverage sacks won't cut it if we're aiming for a SEC title.

We absolutely need to get more pressure on the quarterback. Success on defense stems directly from getting pressure on the quarterback. 19 sacks is abysmal. Chavis is past his prime. Recruits these days are not enticed by a coach with his qualities, and I think we need a defensive coordinator who can recruit. I think we will make a big time hire. we have just had our DC poached by a division rival. michigan just lured jim harbaugh to the B1G. This should be a statement hire by our program. A hire that laughs in txams face and says jokes on you.

I just love Pendergast the more I read about him. USC fans want him back as well.

Guy had the #1 defense in the PAC for 2 years at Cal, then went to USC and had the #1 defense in the PAC his only year there. Reading that FoxNews article has me pumped about the possibilities. He is all about getting pressure on the QB whether he is a dual threat or drop back passer. USC was the 61st defense the year before he came. In his one year (2013), they went from 61st to 13th (4 spots ahead of us in a much tougher offensive conference). They were #1 pass defense and #2 run defense in PAC. USC had 8 returning starters on defense this year, and fell 70 spots in total defense. Cal defense also fell apart when he left.

The offenses in the PAC are a lot more diverse than what's in the SEC, so if he can succeed there, he most definitely can succeed here with the talent we have.

Also, I wondered this, for as highly known as an LB guru as Chavis was, how in the hell have we been so mediocre there? I mean Sheppard and Minter (for one year), were great, but who else??? Kwon was pretty good, but he was inconsistent and ironically was still our most consistent LB the past two years.

I liked Chavis and how he had TAMU's number for 3 years straight now, but Pendergast is all about getting pressure. He is hard into learning new and innovative ways to improve defense. He watched tons of film on his year off and aided NFL coaches and college coaches on how to stop specific offensive systems. He coaches on the sideline and is eager to get back into coaching somebody, anybody! We need to go all out on this guy.

Something this defense has desperately needed the last few seasons.

but he may also have had a lot to do with us not taking the final step to being great.

Yea, right…his solid defenses continually hindered Mile's superior, creative, risk taking, non predictable offense. Yea. Sure! Uh huh! What LSU team u been watchin'?
