I will never understand why this is happening.
If Ole Miss is a night game, and a decently close game, I can DEFINITELY understand the frustration if fans start leaving at half time.
I’ve thought the same thing several times before when the stadium is half empty in the 3rd quarter.
But I think you gotta give the fans a pass yesterday man… 70+ people suffered from heat related illness and that’s only the ones that broke down and went to medical.
There are probably TONS of people that are still trying to re-hydrate and get back right from the game yesterday.
Again.. I understand what you’re saying l, it’s definitely been an issue in the recent past.. but I don’t think yesterday was the day to complain about it.
Also have to remember you’re dealing with a VERY impatient and hot headed fan base. If they don’t like what they see in the field, right or wrong, they aren’t obligated to stay.
SHOULD they stay at night games? Probably so. But we have been spoiled with badass defenses and the last 5 years have been hard to watch at times.

I give a pass for yesterday. I’ve done it before. It sucks.

Posted by mattb10 9/22/24 at 9:40 am to vidtiger23 Don’t care if it’s an old topic which I know it is still doesn’t make it any less embarrassing. Every game I have ever been too which is a good bit especially considering I was a student I stayed until the end. Some of yall just don’t like hearing that we look embarrassing on national tv
Man, that’s a lot of words to say, “I wasn’t there, and really have no idea what the conditions were like.”
For the record, I sat in the North Endzone and stayed the whole game. Concessions were running out of water, not cold water mind you, by halftime. Upwards of 70 people were treated for heat illnesses.
Was it disappointing to see the stadium like that? Yes. Was it fricking retarded to kickoff that game at 2:45 pm? Yes.
I’ve come to grips with the fact we just don’t have diehard fans. We have an overbuilt stadium at this point that may be full once or twice a year. College football hierarchy wanted the money and didn’t think about the full repercussions.

The sheriffs on the west side of NEZ were blocking everybody from walking on the concourse inside the stadium or coming through the tunnels underneath, towards the shaded areas, asking everybody to either “show your blue wristband” or turn around - even if it wasn’t part of the student section…

Your upvote to downvote ratio tells me this is a lost cause. Seems that everyone on this site thinks this is okay and justified. Our fans make fun of the california schools, Miami, and several NFL stadiums for pathetic turn outs but they can't take the criticism when it's pointed at ourselves.

Bro… Get over it
Your verbal vomiting on tigerdroppings is not going to enthuse 90,000 fans to stay in their seats to boil
Shut it up

Maybe if we had a competent coach people wouldn’t leave.

The area you are referencing is reserved for various organizations.. it has always been that way but this year they are managing it .. specifically they have finally assigned a few sheriffs there that are managing it well.. it tends to be a trouble spot with students pouring over the wall there and falling/kicking people sitting in the non student section.. lots of weed.. occasional fights..
I have first hand experience … we always ask if the group next to us is a frat or sorority… frats are fun .. they all get drunk. Some shenanigans.. but always take care of each other. Sororities are a pain.not the girls..their dates)…. a bunch of guys drinking to much and trying to impress dates with excessive stuff like fights.. and peacocking ..
the deputies at that specific area are focused on crowd control and work with the students to manage it but will not take any nonsense.

It was 150 Degrees yesterday, I stayed until the end, but it's very understandable why fans were leaving, it was brutal.

You can say what you want but it is absolutely embarrassing. Stadium looked pathetic yesterday.
yeh sure, i'll have my say!
have you ever sat in the sun on the east side stands?? no shade and no breeze with minimum 90 degrees temp is brutal.
my wife got sick and puked with mild heat exhaustion.

Are you, the OP, and others just being willfully ignorant about the situation yesterday?
If it were 70 degrees outside and people were leaving early, the vast majority of this board would be criticizing it, like they always have, and this thread would have some validity.
However, when it feels like 100+ degrees, concessions are running out of water, and people are needing medical assistance, leaving is absolutely "okay and justified". Passing out from heat exhaustion doesn't make someone a better fan.

If you were not sitting on the east side, you would never understand it.

I am an original East upper guy. Picked my seat on the 50 yard line in 2000. Yesterday was my last day game before mid-October. Period.
I left at the start of the 4th quarter because I felt if I didn’t, I might pass out. I had very little alcohol and a lot of water. I did not hide from the sun during halftime.

What section were you sitting in? In case you didn’t hear, it was incredibly hot. And yes, I was there, one of the few left in the East Upper Deck at the end of the game.

That's the excuse this week and it is probably a legit excuse, but what will be the excuse next week?

I was there and it was pretty brutal. I wouldn’t be deterred but there were people needing medical assistance. That east side is like sitting in a frying pan.

A:
-Buy tickets
-Stay entire game in extreme heat where many fans needed assistance and stadium ran out of water.
- Feel superior to everyone
B:
-Shut your fig arse up
The choice is yours. FTR I stayed the entire game in section 303, East side direct sun.

They started to do this for the student section after the Arkansas game last year. And for the Greek Seats you have to have the wrist band to get into the student section and then have another wrist band that was given at the beginning of the season to be able to sit there. Im not sure what has happened recently in the student section but they make it like TSA now to get in. The sheriffs were giving full pat downs to every student that went in.
