We were sitting in the middle of the SEZ about as far away from the play as you could be. The spontaneous roar when Fuller caught the pass was off the charts.

Holy cow!

I was 8 and watching it with my dad and brother and all three of us hollered as loud as we could as if we were there in person. Almost like we could feel the roar and the earth shaking.

Good times.

I was there with my fiance. We got married two weeks later on the 22nd.

I became widowed two years ago.

I'm still going to all the games. Same seats.

Allow me to apologize to you for throwing a 7&7 on you. I was in the student section a few rows higher than the first row. One of the few plays I remember from my 5 falls as an LSU student.

That game was a snooze fest - defensive struggle - for 3 quarters and ten minutes, and then it got good.

I moved from BR ro VB, VA as a kid in 1980.

I went to a Prince concert in Hampton, VA that night, and didn't finish watching the earthquake game until about 6am Saturday thanks to the old VCR

That was way before internet and cellphones, so I was able to watch the game without knowing what happened.

A great night in Tigahlovah history!

I was there as an 11 year old in the section across from where the band used to sit (20ish yard line).

I remember seeing the pass Fuller dropped shortly before the TD that I couldn’t see very well (but heard it!)

If that Auburn defense wasn’t the stoutest I’ve ever seen, then show me another. Rocker was punishing us. But give credit to our defense. No touchdowns given up.

That game should get so much more recognition than just the “earthquake” game. Willie Williams catches a 4th and long yardage pass to even set us up for the drive and the ultimate “LSU wins or loses with this play” moment.

That team had every reason to not show up. A heartbreaking loss to Ohio State in Columbus. An embarrassing performance in Gainesville. LSU was reeling and yet they became conference champions. And to beat Auburn? That team was far and away the best team in the SEC and next to Miami, the toughest team on the schedule that season. 2 and 2 and you draw Auburn and beat them even though you crossed midfield twice all evening. We must have punted 12 times.

What irks me, I-59, is that LSU was not invited to play in the Sugar Bowl as the SEC champs who tied as co-champs with Auburn, the team they beat. Auburn played Florida State and lost (and they would have likely beaten our asses, too). Auburn had a better record and was 10-1 so I suppose that’s why the invite and not us. Also, after “Tie-dye” the year before, I would have thought the committee wouldn’t want Auburn back. Meanwhile, we went to Tampa and laid an egg against Syracuse in the Hall of Fame Bowl. I guess the Sugar Bowl didn’t really want us because we didn’t play well there…always outmatched by a mightier Nebraska.

But this game should forever hold its lore for the noise and the fingernail-biting on that final drive. Once big Willie picked up that first down, and started acting like a mad man, I knew the end would be special. Just knew it. Hodson to Fuller…those two played a very solid FOUR years together. I mean there are clips of them from 86-89. Fuller found a way to play all four of his eligible years despite being third and second on the depth chart through much of it. Those two and Tony Moss had an outstanding chemistry.
