I’d say he was more than just a decent centerfielder last year when he played it
Towards the end of the season he did everything well. He was a massive part of making a super. Saying he does everything good, but nothing great, isn't meant as a knock on him. It's great having players like him.

+1. I think this will be our best defense alignment. You need your best infielders up the middle. Seems like Bianco is the best candidate at 2nd base. Doughty seems o.k. at 3rd base. Coach JJ must have not watched much previous film on the Tigers. He'll figure it out eventually.

it makes sense when you realize that our coach wasn't here last year. He's making decisions based on what he's seen since he's arrived.
He didn't have to be the coach of the team last year to scout his own team when he took the job, which I'm sure he did.

I gotcha and knew what you meant , I just wanted to make it clear in my opinion of him at the end of last year. We don’t get the chance to get throttled by Tennessee in the supers without bianco

Absolutely. Bianco had some very clutch moments in the postseason, defensively and offensively.

Don't have to break the centrifuge.

I don’t think jay is that big on merrifield .
I’m not sure I’d word it exactly like that, but I agree and said a couple weeks ago that I don’t think Jay is 100% committed to penciling Merrifield into the lineup every day yet. For whatever reason. And your middle infielders need to be in sync. He’d rather have a revolving door at 3rd base than 2nd, and since we know Doughty’s gonna be in the lineup every day, best to keep him at 2nd. This is not necessarily what I think, just trying to read Jay’s mind.
I also think he likes having the Berry at 3rd option available too. It terrifies me thinking of him playing there in a big SEC game, but I guess he disagrees. I think he’s gonna want to be able get another LH bat in the lineup against some RH starters down the road, whether that’s Gio, Pearson, or Stevenson. But he’s not taking Jobert or Dugas out of the lineup to do it, so the only way he can is to have Berry at 3rd.
Speaking of Jobert, what were those exit velos from the other night again, ell?,
Great day for some Friday baseball, boys.

quote:just a guess, late game moves. If an outfielder is subbed in, Berry can be moved to 3rd. Keeps from moving Doughty to 2nd. Minimum amount of players moving around.
Why not just move Doughty back to 3rd and put Bianco at 2B?

Yeah that argument doesn't work when Jacob Berry has shown to be a major liability in the field yet he keeps getting put out there instead of DH. Also it's not like he can't watch games from last year when Dugas led the conference in RBI.

Like Carl said, he wants the revolving door at 3B. I believe you see the same thing at RF. When Gio plays its at RF not CF.
He wants Doughty at 2B and Crews at CF and he move the parts around that.
As for Bianco, he was slow to get the ball to 1B when he played SS. I would expect the same at 3B,but the glove is good and the arm is accurate. His hitting is a mystery to me.

I would like to see Joubert in RF and Berry at DH in some games to see how Joubert looks.

He played RF in the fall. I think he can handle it. I don't know if he would be a big improvement over Berry though. Johnson also mentioned that Berry had the best arm in the OF for what that is worth.

Bianco is literally 0 for the season. He has no place in an LSU lineup.

6 at bats. Little bit of an overreaction, don't you think?

The ball will get to him much quicker at 3B than SS. His arm will be fine there.

This I don't believe at all. Even if it is true, it doesn't matter if he refuses/doesn't know where to throw the ball.

Does it have to be one or the other? And what he's seeing in front of his face is Dugas having 12 RBIs, a .543 OBP (highest on the team) and a .344 BA from the 7-8 hole with no protection. I don't care what JJ saw in fall practice, Dugas has proven he is an elite hitter for this team in SEC and tournament play. He has earned a longer leash than he's been given
