The team was trash last year. This year, they went from trash to meh to mediocre. That was already an improvement. They have a chance after that big win to finish the season strong and go from mediocre to pretty good. That’s huge progress in year 2. I like seeing a positive trajectory. The Kentucky win has a chance to be a program tipping point for this team. Winning 4 of their last 5 and 6 of their last 7 plus a win or two in the the SEC Tournament would completely change my perspective on this program from a year ago.

I have a hard time understanding how people think he can't recruit?
I'm not saying he can't recruit. He is a good (enough) recruiter. But good enough isn't on the level of Bama and Kentucky.
I do think Givens is much better than he's currently ranked. I'm unsure about Miller as the tape I've seen of him seems to be games where he's not trying super hard (which might actually be a good thing considering he still looks good).
McMahon has proven he can get a lot out of guys who are less talented than the other team. He's a good Xs and Os coach, and he knows how to have his players play hard for him. Several players on our team play each game like it's the last game they're ever going to play.
I do think that once we get more talent in we're gonna be a solid team and win games against more talented teams, like we did last night.

Comming from a non Boas standpoint, whether he wins the next 5 or loses the next five, year 3 of a coach should be what is the deciding factor if Coach Mac has is our long term coach of the future or not. I’ve been skeptical of him, but I also want him to succeed because I love Tiger basketball. I like the fight he’s shown down the stretch, The main thing I wanna see out of him next year is consistency and a Team identity.
Also, for everyone here trying to compare Wade vs Mac, it’s impossible. Two different caliber schools? Two diffrent philosophy’s. Even if LSU played Mcneese head up it prolly would not prove anything. And even if you dislike coach Mac or think he’s over his head, the main focus should be LSU basketball.

Not really for me. I think he has a good eye for high school talent. I like Reed, Williams, and ward. I also liked Shawn Phillips. Im ignorant to what his ability to sell the program to kids in the transfer portal. It may just be money, I’m not sure. That’s a blind spot for me.
I never was that down on him, or thought him to be a bad coach, but I don’t know if he has experience enough to adapt his system to the players he can get before the admin runs out of patience, and rightfully so. It seems we will be playing in the postseason this year, which I will be thankful for.
I believe if he can get momentum from this season to next he probably will end up having a successful tenure. I think his goal is to build for consistency, not for the “pressure” to win right now. Which is admirable.

Not quoting since it’s right above this post, but this was a great response to OP & probably the most well-measured take on McMahon I’ve seen recently.
I’m a little more optimistic on the future/timeline, personally considering last year a write-off… but with the way the board has been I’d consider that splitting hairs.
When building, you need something to build on. These last two wins plus a strong finish to this year could be just that.
Would feel great to hit the offseason with momentum.
ETA every response on this page is actually great. Refreshing thread.

The most encouraging thing about the past few games for me has been the increasing contribution from Reed and Ward. The most valuable player has been Hannibal the last few games. All of whom have been with McMahon beyond this season. I just hope he can bring in the horses to compete with Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky every season.

You’d think the guy won the title last night by the majority of the posts on here. The guy beat two decent teams and you have these assholes taking victory laps and talking like he just solidified himself as our coach for the next 10 years. The overreactions to these two wins are 10 times dumber than when his critics bash him when it’s unwarranted
And you’d think the Will Wade Cucks would quit vagina bleeding and hoping LSU does badly under McMahon so they can be right about something in their life for a change. However that can never be. Once a weak cuck, always a weak cuck.

nah this is what I expected. when you idiots lost it after the nicholls loss I tried to calm you down and told you to take a longer view and you all just called me names.
and wade, fans, I like wade more than you, I drive to mcneese games after the LSU games. wade is a genius. but McMahon is fine and deserves credit for the steady improvement.

There has been a ton of overreacting to the last couple games but its hard to not feel good about him. There are a lot of winnable games left this year he could help himself a ton by closing out the season winning games we should win

People want to celebrate big wins. The audacity. It’s not like LSU basketball fans have had a lot to cheer about the last couple years. Let people have fun.
