Teams still must submit bids, but only in super rare cases will a 1 seed not host nowadays. They've even let some 1 seeds host 90 minutes away from their campus at an available minor league park. They bend over backwards to allow 1s to host.

I think the only recent time it didn't happen was Indiana State hosting the special olympics regional weekend. And there weren't any stadiums around they could use.

Mentioned it last page but Old Dominion went to USCe as a 1 seed in 2021 because Old Dominion didnt even attempt to put in a bid to host - and its only because they felt like they actually couldnt due to their facilities.

Only time the last decade a 1 seed didnt host, and its because they literally couldnt because it lacked basic things the NCAA said a facility needs to host like media seating and camera setups.

Ah, I didn't remember that one.

I'm pretty sure UCSB hosted at Lake Elsinore one year, which I completely undershot saying 90 minutes away. Nearly 3 hours away.

so we can't simply outbid some of the smaller teams anymore...that sucks. Need to just go 9-3 to finish sec play lol

Cookman is going to win the swac

Maybe, or not. They're currently tied (10-2) with both Texas Southern and Florida A&M. However with their win over LSU last night they have three wins over P5 schools. If they win SWAC RS and not win the conf tourney I could actually visualise them stealing a bid.

There is no chance the SWAC would ever be a multi bid league. By the end of the regular season, even winning games in conference is going to drag down their RPI to the point that they will have to win the tournament to get a bid.

There have been better teams in better conferences passed up because they didn't win their tournament.

Correct. Bethune could run the table with only loss in SWAC Tournament Champ Game and their RPI would be nowhere in the stratosphere of an at-large bid.

Because of the crappy RPI this is where LSU needs to be

14 wins they are in

13 wins it’s 50/50

12 wins and they’ll be on the outside

It’s a weird spot where they have very little shot to host but a good chance to still be in the field. Think of 2024 but playing better in sec play but worse in midweeks. So we’ll likely be a 2 seed in the 13-16 seeds regional.

USC is instantly better without Maineiri.

They will be no pushover as Texas found out this past weekend.

can anyone tell me the last 14-win SEC team that didn't make the tournament?

Great point to both points made.

I don’t think 13 wins will be enough this year

RPI is in the tank with 5 quad 4 losses. They had 2 last season. Warren Nolan says even if they go 16-14 in the SEC their RPI will only be 43. They’ll make the tournament if they win enough SEC games, but like I Love Lucy said, California here we come.

Most beloved poster on the rant, tBoat

I said the same thing multiple times over the past week plus. That we need to go 17-13 at a minimum because our RPI will be too low to host and that’s even more true today yet I only received downvotes when saying it. At least people hear the truth when you speak it

basically need to average 2 wins every series from here on out to get to 18 wins and host otherwise we likely fall into the pattern of another road regional loss. At least that pattern means a title next year

Regional loss @USM
NCs
Regional loss @UNC
NCs

Agreed and I think this team will do that.

I actually think 14 wins gets you in if you win a few tourney games. If not, 14 could have you at 50 / 50 with our RPI likely in the 40's.
