I've seen so many of these threads over the last 20 years only to see the team end up being really good.

I think with a 15-15 record in the sec we get in no matter what.
It will also depend on where that puts you in the conference standings. If 15-15 has LSU in the bottom half of the SEC, I think things could get a little dicey come selection Monday due to the putrid RPI.
eta for instance, last season, a 15-15 record had you finishing as low as 12th, depending on tiebreakers. In 2024, that same record would have you in the 7th spot. 2023 in 10th.

We got there with 13-17 but a lot less midweek losses. Just depends on how the committee views us at the end of the season. With several more ugly midweek losses we might not get in with 14-16 but the committee would twist themselves in knots making the decision to cut us. We bring asses to seats no matter what and eyes to tvs. Likewise our history and prowess as a contender and champion cannot be denied.

Warren Nolan says even if they go 16-14 in the SEC their RPI will only be 43.
16-14 in sec gets us a regional

In the past yes, not necessarily this year if the RPI is bad enough.
How many teams with RPIs in the 40s ever hosted?

Its gonna be close.
The SEC this far has been teams that were beatable. Tenner is a bad team.
With the exception of usce, the upcoming weekends are going to be better comp. It will be tough on lsu. Bethune Cookman was tough to swallow. Cookman is going to win the swac hands down imo. Losing 4 weekday games is tough.

There are only 4 midweek games left. LSU isn't losing all of them. If they do, they don't deserve to make it anyway. With that said, can anyone tell me the last 14-win SEC team that didn't make the tournament? I'll sit back and wait.

Eh not sure about that. I think because of our horrendous OOC 17 wins is our number. And 14 is our number to make tournament. Basically we need one more SEC than normal for both scenarios based on how our OOC play has been.

Without researching into the RPI prior to the NCAAT of every 14 win SEC team it's not an apples to apples comparison. Again the key difference here is we've lost a lot of Q4 games already (5) which is what has kille dour RPI to 75 at this point.
A 14-16 SEC team with an RPI of 30 or 35 prior to the tournament is not an apples to apples comparison if we finished 14-16 but with an RPI of say 45-50. Lets see the worst RPI of 14 and 13 win SEC teams to make the NCAAT.

I think we will make the tourney, IF Jay has time to get the roster right.

14 regular season SEC wins gets you in. REGARDLESS

Both Ole Miss and Missouri in 2017.
Ole Miss was also the last team in the tournament in 2022 with a 14-16 conference record. Obviously we know how that turned out.

Doing some quick research on last 5 years of 13-14 win SEC teams:
2025
Oklahoma 14 wins - RPI of 26
Kentucky 13 wins - RPI of 38
2024
Vandy 13 wins - RPI of 20
Florida 13 wins - RPI of 30
South Carolina 13 wins - RPI of 21
Alabama 13 wins - RPI of 24
LSU 13 wins - RPI of 23
2023
A&M 14 wins - RPI of 29
2022
Vandy 14 wins - RPI of 7
Ole Miss 14 wins - RPI of 39 [Was last team in tournament]
2021
LSU 13 wins - RPI of 28
Bama 12 wins - RPI of 31 [Did make tourney even with only 12 wins; had 1 conf game canceled]
UGA 13 wins - RPI of 41 [NOT SELECTED]
So over the last 5 seasons, no SEC team got in with an RPI worse than 39 and 14 or less conf wins, and the team with an RPI of 39 was the last at-large team in (ole miss who won the whole thing funny enough)
Again, an RPI in the 40s, especially high 40s is very, very dangerous territory for us with 13-14 SEC wins.

i am also thinking we win 1 or 2 in sec tourney. I am not panicking yet bc there have been many years we turn it on in may
ETA- can a host still be a 2 seed? It seems like 2 seeds have hosted in the past. Do teams still submit bids for regionals?

Thats only in special cases I believe where the 1 seed cant host for some reason. This is extremely extremely rare. Like their park is being used for something else they committed to during NCAAT or being renovated right away, or is just way too tiny or something

Is there an alternate NIT sort of baseball tournament in case we fall short of the regular tourney?
Posted on 4/8/26 at 9:40 am to pitchandcatch27
LSU softball ranked higher then baseball
Posted on 4/8/26 at 9:41 am to thunderbird1100
LSU has hosted as a #2 in the past. I remember they did in 1995. I think Rice or Cal State Fullerton was the #1 seed that year
Posted on 4/8/26 at 9:48 am to pitchandcatch27
You asked after we lost to Bethune Cookman

Totally different format back then, was a long long time ago and was actually pretty regular.
That same year regional 3 seed Fresno hosted as well as a 2 seed Oklahoma and 2 seed Wichita St
The last regional 1 seed to not host was Old Dominion back in 2021 who South Carolina hosted as a 2 seed because Old Dominion didnt even put a bid in to host because they felt like they couldnt. Its also the only 1 seed to not host in the last decade.
