Not that I care, but LSU and Wake both went 2-1 this week. LSU's two weekend games were against the #6 team on the road. Wake's two weekend games were at home against an unranked team.

Its nc state, they are still considered a good team. I dont really care either, i think we both know it doesnt matter. But that gap is closing. I dont think teams should get dinged too hard for losing midweek games. Wake and lsu are close IMO

LSU has won series vs 3 very good teams. The split on road with a 4th very good team in a delayed game 1. They beat Texas. That’s not LSU glasses.

According to South Carolina fans, LSU is overrated and they outscored LSU 20-13 so they should be #1.

No other team really did enough to justify jumping LSU. Florida probably could have jumped LSU with a sweep but they dropped Game 3 vs Tenn. Wake dropped a midweek game vs Elon. The only Top 10 team to go undefeated was #7 Virginia.

eta: It also doesn't matter as long as LSU stays comfortably in the Top 8.

Halfway through the conference slate: I'd predict the National Seeds to be LSU, Wake, Florida, Vandy, Arky/USCe, Virginia, Stanford, ECU.

Wake and Virginia don't play in the regular season. They will give one Super to the west coast and UCLA/Oregon have too many losses (though the RPI loves them).

ECU might get screwed if the committee decides to spread out the seeds. The committee is probably hoping that one of the Big 12 teams separates from the pack to give one to Texas/Okie State.

Maybe, maybe not. All that matters is being a top eight seed and in line for a Super Regional. Its not automatic, but whe you host a SR, your odds of getting to Omaha go up significantly.

This.

I think we do drop to 2 or 3, btw. It's getting hard to justify being #1, when you keep dropping a game every series. I don't care if we play a top 5 team every week, at some point the number 1 team needs to separate.

We have great potential, but also some pretty big holes are beginning to come into focus. Look at the games we lost; Iowa 12-4. A&M 8-6 after leading late. Arkansas 9-3 after being tied late (extra innings). Tennessee 14-7. South Carolina 13-5.
3 legitimate arse-whippings, and 2 where the bullpen collapsed... Ark scored 8 in the 10th, and A&M scored 4 in the bottom of the 8th. Those teams were supposed to be in the same pitching situation, but had someone left to shut us down for the W.

Again, we're very good, but there comes a point in pitching depth where we just fall off a cliff. When we get there, it's over. If I'm handicapping the whole field, that's something I would take into account.

From Aaron Fitt - D1 Baseball Editor:

1:20 Outside of 1 bad inning that cost them game two, South Carolina completely controlled the series vs. LSU. If they win the Vandy series this weekend could we see them jump up to #1?

Aaron Fitt
1:20 I could see that happening — if LSU loses its series to Kentucky. If LSU doesn't lose a series, we're not going to drop the Tigers out of No. 1, and it doesn't matter what anybody behind them does. And you're right, South Carolina should have won that series this past weekend -- but it didn't. LSU found a way to win a tough game on the road against a top-10 opponent to split the series, and LSU deserves credit for that, just as much as South Carolina deserves credit for ALMOST winning the series.

so, if the other top 10 teams all get swept, it doesn't matter? LSU still drops just because?

How are you coming to that conclusion?

No, all top six teams lost one last week.

This - I don’t care to be the number 1 seed

So if no one else separates do we just leave number 1 as a blank? Florida finally plays a semi tough team and does exactly what we did against them. Vanderbilt has yet to play their tough SEC series although we’ll see their first chance this week. Wake continuously drops games they theoretically shouldn’t.

Where are all these teams behind LSU that aren’t dropping a game every weekend?

If nobody separates, it's pretty evident there's no clear favorite

Look, rankings are one thing, and I get your point. Somebody has to be there, and right now the standard seems to be "don't lose a series" to stay there. This week we split 2 games, instead of taking 2 of 3.

We're a little past a third of the conference schedule, and currently have the 6th best conference record. I know, everyone hasn't played the same level of competition.
For the record, Fla took 2 of 3 at Tennessee, we did that at home. If you're playing a really good team, you'd guess the home team takes the series.

We're definitely still top 8 and should host a Super, but beyond that- there's a big pack of teams that could still challenge us directly.
Don't get angry about someone stating the truth

Arkansas proved a team can match Skenes on the mound, outlast him, and get the win. South Carolina proved that a team's best hitter can take his 100mph fastball over the fence.
Once you get past Skenes, we have some decent pitching, but rely on hitting. A couple teams have shown they can outscore us in game 3, once you get past the good pitchers.

I really hope it doesn't happen, but it's totally possible a good team can do both to us, and take a series. I don't want that in the postseason.
We're in great shape, but not perfect.

Who has said otherwise? Of course we’re not perfect not many teams in college baseball history were lol.

I think they have five "official" polls...

ESPN/USA Today Coaches top 25
Baseball America top 25
Collegiate Baseball top 30
NCBWA top 30
D1 Baseball top 25

Then a sixth poll by Perfect Game top 25

We are #1 in all six.

Does anyone know why some teams/leagues don't fully recognize Perfect Game? I know LSU always lists all six rankings on their weekly rankings report.
