Just assume every draft eligible player is leaving.

I hope he stays, but he has that rare combination of size speed, and coverage ability that I can see translating very well to the NFL.

Good money compared to one more year and three rounds earlier?

There are a ton of guys on this list. That should have stayed another year.

9 guys since 1990 who left early went undrafted that’s not a ton. Where is this guarantee that coming back will raise draft stock. For some guys it will for others it won’t. Suppose a guy has a great junior year his stock may never be that high again.

I hope he stays

Has the stuff to be a stud in the NFL, plays the defense the NFL is going to, can help contain guys like Lamar.

Jacoby might be the most important recruit O needs to have come back for senior year.

I think it depends what he wants to be at the next level. If he’s given a shot to be a true safety, I think he stays and is certainly in contention for a Thorpe
Award next year. Probably boosts his draft stock a good bit.

I get that some might not have a choice.

But how about that malachi dupree 7th round selection? You cant tell me another year wouldnt have helped.

I think for sure you lose

CEH
Jefferson
Delpit
Chaisson
Cushenberry
Charles
Phillips
Moss

Then Stevens, Queen, Shelvin & Ed Ingram are guys is Keep an eye on

Man that really feels like a doomsday scenario on the OL. It would surprise me if Ingram left considering he’s only started two games since 2017. But if all of these guys left, we would lose:

C - Lloyd Cushenberry (early entrant)
G - Damien Lewis (senior)
G - Ed Ingram (early entrant)
G - Adrian Magee (senior)
T - Badara Traore (senior)
T - Saahdiq Charles (early entrant)

That would leave Deculus and Hines as our only returning OL with starting experience, and Hines would most likely be at a new position (center). I know it has to happen eventually, but it still sucks. On the bright side, we’ve got some underclassmen with upside. Just hard to see how OL play doesn’t decline next year unless we keep at least 1-2 of the potential early entrants.

Charles and Ingram will be back. Both were suspended most of the season and if they return to play a full season this shows scouts and the NFL allot and makes their stock go way up.

Of your list, only the top 4 and maybe Moss would be wise to leave. The rest of the guys would do themselves a favor to stay another year and try to build their stock.

He is a case of an athlete that would be a complete idiot to leave

Those four, fulton and moss. I could see cush rolling out. We will obviously have attrition on the d line due to our seniors. There were rumors floating around that shelvin was gonna stay for his degree. He is a case that will be interesting to watch. He has had a very good year, but still may be round 3 or 4. Top 4 rounds are garunteed money, i think this cutoff will play a big roll in these juniors decisions.

Do you think Stevens returns?

I think JaCoby Stevens returns next year and here’s why...
the first thing you have to ask yourself is where does he project at the next level...

I see Stevens a an in-the-Box safety on early downs and possibly a nickel backer on passing downs. Although Stevens can increase his draft potential by returning for another season I think he’s a 3rd-5th rounder right now with the 3rd round being his ceiling this year if he leaves. If he stays for another season and Aranda increases his role in the secondary making him more versatile I think it’s quite possible Stevens could jump up into the 2nd round.

FWIW... I had this same type of projection for Landon Collins after reviewing his film while he was at Dutchtown

If we win the NC

I doubt that has anything to do with it. These are mostly guys who will be very poor or very rich. They are not letting sentimental rah-rah bullshite affect their decision. And the NFL doesn’t give a rat’s arse if they win a national championship[.

Please stay. We need safeties

I don’t see that as a problem. We will have three very good safeties in Hampton, Vincent and Harris. Marcel Brooks can play back there assuming he’s mostly used around the line of scrimmage. And we have Stingley, Flott, Ward, Jones at corner with Ricks coming in, so we only need two safeties on the field at any time.

I’ll tell you this, though, we better get more safeties in this year’s class, because in 2021 we’ll have one safety plus whomever we sign this year. You don’t want to rely on freshmen at THAT position.

First rounders should be the only early entries. This is Saban's philosophy and he is correct.

And if this is Saban’s philosophy it total BS.

First of all there’s only 32 teams and what I know is that teams who draft in the second round now consider those picks almost like first rounders... Next, evaluations are flawed sometimes which means some of the players that are projected in the early rounds don’t pan out...
Finally, think about it for a sec... how many rounds are there aside from the first? That’s right 6... So do the math percentages on how many more players will hit than miss according to that many players...
