Looking at your picture, that is the Columbia Canal breach, not one of the creeks that I was referring to. What sucks about that is the canal supplies drinking water.

Too early to make a joke about LSU fans trying to drink Columbia dry?

Senator Graham says things the worst isn't over yet. 550 roads are closed and bridges are collapsing. They're showing aerial views from Blackhawk helicopters on cnn of Columbia and other towns.

I expect the chance is great that state resources will be needed elsewhere and this game is coming to Baton Rouge, or elsewhere.

We could go all Friday Night Lights and build a field out on a farm somewhere.
I really do think they'd try Charlotte if it absolutely had to be moved since the Panthers don't play this weekend.

My friends are being evacuated out of Columbia. Their water supply has been contaminated and 3 major dams have broken already.
These same guys were telling me this morning that the game will be played there still, but they've completely changed their tune. They say there's no way because there will be no police or emergency personnel available for a major football game.
ETA:
Rumblings up there are that Charlotte would be where it moves...

What alternative sites besides BR are being discussed? Atlanta?

I do. Being in Augusta I can more easily go to a game in Columbia than one in Baton Rouge.

getting trees off of roads and dealing with the water is going to be the priority this week
Its just Monday.... If the rain stops and the water starts to go away by wednsday, A lot can be done.... I know there are a ton of people that will be grieving about their losses... Should the game be played??? YES, If there is no danger about getting people to the game.... IS this game THAT important??? T some there,,,YES IT S......... But in the overall scheme of things its not....

That's the reason it won't be in Columbia.

I see alot about the stadium being good and the game being played fine.
This in the quotes is more why I was thinking it could be moved. Resources may be slim, the roads heading to the campus may be blocked, places for the teams to stay and boil water advisory and sewage problems is the bigger concerns

One football game brings in a lot of money to the city. I'd imagine that USC Admin and City of Columbia will do everything they can possibly do to keep the game in Columbia. Keep in mind the bar districts are fine, so a lot of local businesses rely on the 7 weekends a year that we get the games.

we've gone through post disaster relief and football games being played. I think you're going to be disappointed.

I agree here.........

I understand... BUT there are things that are out of control............ I hope they are able to play the game....

I heard from a friend of mine, who's sisters mom is a real estate agent in the Columbia area that the game is most likely going to be moved to BR because the vendors aren't able to supply enough nacho cheese for the game due to road closures

In these types of situation, it's not so much the condition of the field or the roads - which usually will be fine given it's only now Monday - but rather, do they have enough police, EMTs, etc to handle the game. Those guys are probably working their you know whats off and will be whipped by this weekend. Asking them to then go work detail for a game might be hard. If they can get some backups to come help, it might be fine.
Otherwise, they may move to a central location, like Atlanta.

Pretty sure we play in Columbia on Saturday.

The sad thing is the utter silence/lack of communication from the SEC offices on this issue.
They could easily address (false) rumors by stating that, assuming conditions do not worsen, the game will be played in Columbia.
Or they could come out and say, we're not sure yet, but we are investigating possibilities.
The silence fosters rumors to the same extent that refusing to come out and say, "hey, our ref missed that call" and instead support the clearly blown call fosters conspiracy theories about the league office.
The SEC Conference Offices need to do a better job of communications and pr.

quote:I'm equally amused by your contention that my sources contradict me when the only source I quoted was the University of South Carolina, which continues to state the exact same as I previously quoted on their website, updated today at 3:15 pm.
I'm just amused at how personally you are attacking when your own sources contradict you.

As a state agency, the University must follow the delay and closing determinations of Richland County Government.
You were wrong. I was correct. Or are you saying that you know more than the University of South Carolina knows and they are just making a big mistake?
