So if most agree that the players are in it for themselves, why do LSU fans get so bent out of shape when a player “opts out” to go and prepare themselves for their ultimate goal? They didn’t quit on their team. Their “team” is themselves and their family. Chase, Marshall, etc did what they felt was best for their “team”.

If a kid goes to college on a athletic scholarship and doesn’t want to play professionally for at least two years they are retarded

Can’t they care about both?

LF still wears his LSU pads

I'd say there are plenty of people that care about both out of the ones that are in the league

* scholarship to LSU or somewhere similar

Because lots of kids in general get athletic scholarships who know they won’t ever be pros

I loved my time at LSU as I am sure they do, but if they would have came to me after my junior year and said you killed it in differential equations so we are going to hire you as an engineer today I would have left in a heartbeat.

MOST ALL care about the money from the NFL, there are a rare few who care about the place they played ball.

I think they care more about the tradition of being an ex-LSU football player and the bond that gives them with other ex-LSU players in the pros more so than they care about LSU the university. Seems to be that way for most players from most football programs. Like when ex Ohio St players come on TV during introductions and say "THE Ohio state university" and ex-Miami players like to say they played their college ball at the "U" and ex Bama players like to say "roll tide" after they introduce themselves on camera.

I think most LSU football players see college as a means to an end, which is to get paid.

I get your question but isn’t this what college is supposed to do for every student ?

Just the NFL, they are on scholarship to LSU because they believe it's the best road for them to the NFL. They would have no problem going to Alabama, Texas or Ole Miss if they thought it would give them a better shot. In the end it's just about money.

True. Also not just an LSU thing.

And it should be noted that there is nothing wrong with that. Someone with great academic prowess with multiple scholarships would make the same decision. Difference is no one hates them when they choose another school and hopes they fail.

I agree with that somewhat only in football, other sports it’s plenty opportunity to make a little cash...

There is no way to generalize the players. Some care about their team, some their state and their legacy and some just care about themselves. Hell some may not care about anything. It’s up to our coaches to find the right players and build chemistry. The same could be said of regular students as well fwiw. I went to school with plenty of students from other states who didn’t give AF about LSU. Some learn to love it and some want to get to a job as soon as they can. People that act like everyone should commit their souls to LSU aren’t seeing it for what it is. It’s college kids who are getting free tuition in exchange for their talents.

Who knows what others are thinking, or their agenda. As long as they give their best on and off the field is what matters. But to answer your question I think those who really cared about LSU are the ones who give back to LSU. It may be financial, personal involvement, speaking proudly of the school, and keeping in touch with the program.

Do you truly care about your employer or are you in it to make money and get a better life? If a better paycheck and benefits package comes along, are you staying because you love your employer?
