I didn't care about LSU as an institution until after I graduated. You don't know what you have until it's gone.

I get your question but isn’t this what college is supposed to do for every student ?
Yes that is exactly what it is. But no one gets upset if any non-sports student leaves college early to pursue their career. Why do we criticize athletes for leaving college to pursue the very career they went to school for?

Some do and some don’t. Your higher rated guys who e been told by parents/handlers certain things from a young age don’t have the same thoughts as a kid who grew up loving LSU. That being said there are some great players who truly care about LSU

But overall the top kids look at it as a business deal, that’s why they do the whole “for the next 3 years I’m taking my talents to” BS

Everybody that’s ever went to college uses it as a “mean to an end” it’s a stepping stone in what hopefully helps vault your life to the next step.

This is a great point, and is worth repeating.

As others have said, you have some players that grew up LSU fans and are honored to be here. You have some who didn’t necessarily grow up as fans, but take great pride in playing for LSU. You have some who are here strictly to get to the next level and don’t really care about school pride. And you probably have some who are disenchanted for whatever reason and wish they had gone somewhere else.

In other words, pretty much the same spectrum as any school’s student body or any company’s employee base. And I would be willing to bet that a lot of those kids from low-income families - especially Louisiana families - are more grateful to the university than many folks would like to believe. Are they 100% selflessly devoted to LSU? Probably not, but not many college kids are.

I would rather we reward kids who want an education first and foremost. The way things have been changing with these low income kids only wanting to showcase thejr talents to get a hefty payday Im tired of it. And now like the OP mentioned, opting out is gonna be the way of the futute. We already see it in basketball.

Go watch one of the old Jamal Adams videos that pissed off the Jets fans a few years ago. Dude is an All-Pro....but as passionate about LSU football as anybody I've seen. I think it absolutely means something to them....(Watch Bregman throwing "L's" and checking LSU scores during games. Yes, it's baseball, but you can tell LSU means alot to him. NFL players always make bets on their former teams when they play....

Isn’t that why we all went to college? To get paid!
We (mostly) focused on our studies to the best of our ability to get our degree and to get a job. I see most of the players doing the same thing. Shooting for their dream of playing professionally.
