Nobody that quit following it completely was ever really that interested. I did quit following HS recruiting almost completely, because it has become such a joke. That does make it a little harder to keep up with the up and coming talent.

You were "donating" through TAF, ticket sales, buying LSU branded goods (for which LSU receives a licensing fee), etc to make coaches multi-millionaires and to help pay for lavish facilities. Those 18, 19, 20 year olds are the ones performing on the field...which is the reason you watch the game. It's the reason the networks pay hundreds of millions of dollars a year for the rights to broadcast that game to you.

If an 18 year old is a brilliant singer, artist, actor, scientist, musician, hell, even a baseball player, no one bats an eye that the free market allows them to generate millions of dollars in earnings. Yet, there is a problem with a talented football (or basketball) player doing so within an industry/business so popular that it generates over one-hundred million dollars in revenue annually?

The biggest decades long farce is that major college football (and basketball) was/is simply just "amateur" sports. There aren't many amateur sports where TV networks will paly hundreds of millions of dollars to broadcast the games, or the business will generate millions in revenue just to put on a single game.

HS baseball is an amateur sport. D-3 football is an amateur sport. SEC football isn't...and it hasn't been for a LONG time.

This is purely your perception and that speaks to your sensitivity & lack of adaptability

LSU probably keeps 90% of the players they get verbal commitment from. Crazy you would throw out that number lol

I hope you realize that all of the things that made you lose your passion for football, also goes on in baseball

I’m just as invested in the season and games as ever, but following recruiting and the enjoyment that used to come with that is completely gone forever for me.

I doubt anyone will just quit watching cold turkey like that. May be just a gradual lack of interest depending on how things go. But it’s still early yet.

I don’t know if NIL/TP have just coincided with now having a kids but I’m just not as plugged in as I once was. Come game day, I’m still watching but years ago I’d be counting down the days until football was back, big game weeks seemed to drag on forever, I knew the whole roster top to bottom…

It’s not just NIL though, the TV partners and big conferences seem hell bent on turning CFB into NFL Lite and stripping away much of what CFB unique and different from the pros on Sunday.

So probably a mixture of things have reduced my passion for it:

Yes life has changed but it hasn't been the cause of my passion for college football decreasing.

What is the exact reason then?

I've gone from a person who watched any college fotball game I could. My Saturdays were filled from wake to bed.

Now, I watch LSU games and the occasional big SEC game, usually without much real interest.

I've shifted from all day college football and the occasional NFL game to all day NFL with the occasional college game.

Like others say, my zeal for LSU and CFB is about 50% of what it used to be for 40+ years. And what I have believed and said since the beginning of NIL and unlimited transfers, is that this decrease in interest will ultimately hurt the players because of the indirect effects of less demand, which is ironic because paying the players and making them continual free agents was meant to help them.

I had grown pretty frustrated with the NIL era, and apathetic to an extent. I think things are starting to stabilize and you see teams taking an NFL approach to roster management, looking for value vs over paying, which seemed to be the norm early on.

The simple economics of it all have started to return some common sense to things and I find it less frustrating to have everything g in the open vs having a guy committed for a year only to have him flip on signing day when Bama comes in and makes an offer they can’t refuse.

Pros and cons to both, but the money has always been there.

I don’t personally know anyone who has quit but I know some (including me) that care a lot less.

Solid response, you can put me in the same bucket. If anything, the transfer portal is what changed my outlook.

I no longer pay attention to anything except the actual season. From Jan-August, its dead to me.

Thank god for baseball.

I know a few.

I know others who keep up with it but not like before.

I'm always going to follow the team. But, i gave up on following recruiting and keeping up with the roster. It's pointless now. Things change so much and so fast.

I don't like the current climate in college athletics, but I'm still an avid LSU fan.

I definitely don't get as invested in recruiting as I used to, but to me, going to games on campus still feels the same, especially once the ball kicks off.
