How does Bama have guys getting arrested and failing more drug test than they can count (Tim Williams) but they never miss time? We lost a freaking Heisman finalist because of weed. Something isn’t adding up.

Yes . We call him “ NO Bahnsen.
His job is to say no to any player that helps LSU compete.

Saint Miriam and the Golf Coaches husband..

gestapo is being very kind...the chatter is us and UGA have the most anti-football admins in top tier sec fball coaches and time and again this has proven true....still not an excuse to not beat bama in so long..

Here's the problem I see with our compliance:

Their metrics, mission, and performance is tied to only avoiding violations (not just NCAA, but obviously including them). They are not just fully independent (coaches can't control or influence them), their performance is in no way tied to the performance of athletics.

Hence, they have zero incentive to say "maybe", much less "yes". Furthermore they have no desire or incentives to explore grey areas and loopholes. Both are potential violations, therefore are not worth the risk (by their and their alone metrics).

They do a good job of educating student-athletes, but they have an incentive to do that.

On Weed: NCAA simply says IF you have a drug policy you must adhere to it after presenting to them. Testing, violations, and enforcement can be anything we want it to be.

I have had people in the know tell me that our compliance dept. is way more stringent than the others. They overreact to minor infractions. They think they are being holier than thou by doing this and some people think it is a good thing. I don't.

i agree this is stupid, like it or not, what bama does and allows, sets the standards for everyone else in the conference as far as making the rules.

so if you ever want to compete with them without them having unfair advantages, you need to use the same rules and guidelines and punishments as them.

It's been this way for decades now. Didn't understand in the 80's, don't understand why now.

Things like this absolutely affect your ability to be competitive on the field but if you bring it up in conversation with fans of other teams(looking at you Gumps) but most tracigally, even fans of LSU, youre called a "crybaby bitch", "stop complaining", "a pussy", etc.

Sad that LSU fans cant be unified in their complaints and instead we waste time and energy eating our own. Much like the compliance department. Winners dont do that.

He must be a Bama alum.

Bama players have dodge chargers with a no down payment, no payments for 3 years. Yet nobody else in the public can get this same deal from the dealership.

They have an epic meltdown if Shaq accidently runs into a recruit at Texas Brazil. LSU's very strict policy on weed is a joke.

It seems, from the outside looking in, that LSU has a resentful nerd/bureaucratic/political hack contingent that sabotages or is generally dismissive of the athletic department.

Those frickers need to move on. LSU is in Louisiana. It will never be the Harvard of the South. Do what youre good at and be L.S.U., Louisiana Sports University. It gives you at least some identity rather than a giant cut at the knees by his own.

It is more than just anti-football.

I played tennis for LSU. Tennis teams have alot of foreign born non-english speaking players.

LSU, voluntarily, is the only SEC school that makes athletes from non-English speaking countries take the TOEFL exam. If they do not score high enough, they do not let them in. Keep in mind we lost players from multiple different countries who ended up going to other SEC schools and actually being 4.0 students........

It is ridiculous

Miriam is as big of a problem as Joe Alleva is within our AD. Just not a good person.

I know compliance is tough due to the nature of the job (and they do a good job there preventing us from having a major scandal), but our department is known for being way more strict and overbearing than most others.

2014 data

It's still up to conferences and schools to set their own testing standards. It is legal in a lot of States. Well over 50% of Coaches are against testing. If they know players smoke they do not test them. It is not a PED and lends no competitive advantage. The SEC has to protect players from fanatical and uncompromising compliance officers.

Over 25% of FBS football players reportedly (^higher) smoke weed and as many as 75% of the NFL where it is medically used for CTE and pain. Alleva should know because it is highest among Lacrosse players.

Nick Marshall got busted by the Chief of Police in a GA town and let go. His penalty was he did not get to go to SEC Media Days.

Saban tells the NCAA to GTFO and is adamantly opposed to the NCAA having anything to do with what is a medical/behavioral issue to be handled in house. This goes all the way back to Bear Bryant who paid for a Player to go to Law School and work as a mole in the NCAA Compliance Dept. Bryant wanted to head off anything the NCAA was doing...and he did.

“If they’re going to test, they should test everybody,” Saban said. “They shouldn’t just test the four teams in the championship, test everyone going to a Bowl or no one. The suspension is ludricrous. It takes a lot more investment to build up a man than to tear him down."
