28Daniels is not Howard's main long term competition. Nuss is. If Daniels was leaving and Nuss beat out Howard in spring (which is likely), Howard's long term result is the same and likely leaves.

There are teams in the SEC that might give him a more realistic chance. No one can see the future but I think our chances of winning are with him on the other team….right now. It’s also pretty clear he didn’t see himself pushing the two guys in front of him. The bowl game reinforced that.

If JD left, Walker would have probably stayed till after spring, if at that point he wasn't leading the competition he would have transfered.
If Nuss left its more likely he stayed long term as JD only had this year left.
With both staying he doesn't feel confident he can beat out JD this year(obviously) and with Nuss staying he gets a major leg up in 24 so Howard would likely sit 3 more seasons.

You are running a few plays that the upcoming opponent runs. So it’s not relevant reps. You are basically a tackling dummy. Just as useful as playing in the backyard.
