Daniels had a higher passer rating in 2023 (208.01) than Burrow in 2019 (201.96).
This is the all-time highest passer rating for a season in all of football, right? And wasn't his QBR number highest ever, also?

Daniels had more total yards per game in 2023 (412.2) than Burrow in 2019 (402.6).
What is the record for total offense avg.? (I Googled it, but looks like the NCAA site isn't updated for '23 yet)
And it looks like he might hold record for most yards per play? Kyler Murray had 10.37 in '18; JD5 was 11.7 per PA & 8.4 per rush, so, somebody do the math....

Does Burrows include the Georgia, Oklahoma and Clemson game for averages? While the 2019 regular season was tough if it includes those 3 games it would be that much more impressive.
Holy shite I just looked at his stats for those 3 games again. He had 18 total TDs and 1300 yards passing.

But on a purely collegiate level, I think Jayden is maybe actually better … and I would have never imagined I could ever possibly hold this viewpoint

I have to agree - what JD did to the opposition was magical and unapproachable. I cannot believe he could sustain the in the NFL without more physical bulk, but that remains to be seen.
I would not have believed we'd ever see anything like Burrow again, but now that view shifts to JD at the collegiate level, with no disparagement of either.

Burrow has a mentality that only a few qbs have

Definitely have to credit both for putting in work to make sure year 2 was special
They took coaching and worked on deficiencies to become better second year in program
There was talk both could move on after their first years in program
Both made wise decisions and made a lot of money for themselves in this day and age of immediate gratification

Ya'll act like Joe didn't have to put up points to win games the score in the Alabama game was 46-41 and Alabama had 541 total yards of offense.

Burrow never skipped a bowl game.
I kid, I kid...

Burrow made the crticial 3rd down against Texas. JD did not make the critical 3rd down against Ole Miss.
That is the difference.
Yeah, that must be it. I thought it might be the fact that the 2019 LSU was ranked #31 in the nation while the 2023 LSU defense was #104 but obviously the difference was one play where JD didn't convert a 3rd down in a game where LSU scored 49 points and lost.

One more thing not decided yet. Joe was the clear, number one pick in the NFL draft.

How would each have performed in the others offensive schemes??

On this topic, did Burrow "only" win two more awards than Jayden, the Manning and Maxwell? Or are there some others that are less prominent.
Awards only Burrow won: Manning, Maxwell, Lombardi, CFP NC offensive MVP.
Burrow won the Lombardi Award during a four-year stretch when they expanded their eligibility criteria, but, now, offensive backfield players are no longer considered for the award. Washington's Michael Penix won the Maxwell Award but Daniels could still win the Manning Award. He is one of 10 finalists for the Manning, which is announced after the bowls. Half of the 10 finalists have opted out of bowl games for various reasons.
quote:No.
Did Jayden win any that Joe didn't?
In addition, Burrow was a unanimous all-American while Daniels was a consensus all-American.

Difference between Burrow and JD
Burrow had the benefit of being compared to no one. We had never had anything in the same realm as he was at qb.
Then a few years later JD comes along and everyone is comparing hik to burrow. Then suddenly ot gets to end of season and casual fans realize he has arguably better stats. JD was Clyde Edwards and Burrow wrapped into the same player.

Why don’t we just make every excuse in the book to discredit LSUs offense and Jayden. We have some shitty fans

There is absolutely no reason why Daniels shouldn’t have been a unanimous All American

Defense
Killer instinct.
LSU was up at the half against Florida State and lost. Up with the ball with 5 minutes left against Ole Miss and lost. Tied at 28 with the ball agaisnt Alabama and lost.

Joe had a more complex, creative, and diverse offensive scheme. It was tremendous to watch him work through the complexity of the routes to find the matchups and deliver.
The offense that Daniels operated in wasn't terribly complex or creative. Many of the routes were the same each game. Sideline/slot comebacks/outs. Deep balls...especially out of the slot. A few in-cuts. It's just that Daniels and the WRs executed at such a high level it was next to impossible to defend. Go back and watch the tape. Game after game defenders had good coverage on the WRs. It's not like Daniels was just throwing to wide open guys after blow coverages. Yet the ball placement was often perfect and Nabers, Thomas (and to a lesser extent, Lacy) seemed to win 90% of "50/50" balls.
Then, when the defense took away every throw. When they got pressure. Daniels would just calmly slip out of the pocket and glide for 30-40 yards. That was the most impressive part. The defense could do everything EXACTLY right...and still give up 40 yards.
Its gets forgotten because of the way the game ended, but his 99 yard TD drive vs FSU in 2022 could be the most clutch drive I've ever seen a LSU QB execute. 99 yards in 1:20 with only 1 TO needed a TD to "tie"
