Need to wait until after the draft to see which players sign out of high school

Hopefully NIL will have an impact on some of the players turning down the MLB. Only time will tell.

Yeah, I used to hate the 11.7 scholarship limit but now with NIL I feel like LSU could have an advantage over almost everyone. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see too many other places making NIL deals.

Am I looking at this wrong?

Mississippi State, Arkansas, Tennessee are all using NIL deals to their advantage.

Tennessee's starting catcher isn't on scholarship, but makes enough NIL money to not come out of pocket for tuition.

In my opinion, the route to go would be to load of up the freshman class with scholarships and arrange the NIL deals for their subsequent years on campus.

Also known as the pre-NIL Vandy method.

Yeah, but my way doesn't involved forcing guys to declare independence from their parents.

LSU baseball:

Last year at this time: 1-8 in SEC play, 27-56 combined score

This year: 4-5 in SEC play, 65-50 combined score

I think our run deficit in losses is 10 runs with three of the games being 1 run games. I'm typing from memory so I may not have those numbers entirely accurate, but they're close.

I understand that A&M and Auburn aren't the same caliber of team we played in the first three series last year, but the reason I'm not melting is because we're right on the cusp of being really good. We do some flat out dumb shite in the field, but I don't think the individual players are as bad at defense as has been showing. I think there is a possibility it clicks and they pull their collective head out of their asses and we go on a run.

At that point, I don't care what series we've played vs what he have left, because if we start fielding the ball worth a shite, we can beat anyone on our schedule the way we're pitching and hitting.

All of what Project said, +++.

Not worth giving up on this team.

Agreed with everything you said.

The lineup has shown the ability to absolutely shell a ranked team on the road. The first two home series are frustrating because pitching hasn’t been bad…actually quite consistent.

When they stop beating themselves at the worst times they’ll be incredibly dangerous come May and June.

Dittos.

Some of the bad stuff we've seen is just flukes. Seems like we've left a bunch of balls on the warning track.

And I'm encouraged about our pitching.

Means absolutely zero in baseball where half those kids could get drafted. They’ll re-rate the class after the draft and when we hit the transfer portal to fill holes made from it.

So, if it reflects well on the coach, AD or school, you discount it. If it reflects poorly you cling to it with every bit of your being.

Gotcha.

So apart from what his motives are or what value he assigns it, isn't it so what he posted?

How about it’s simply the reality of the situation when it comes to baseball. Smoke went after top tier guys too. How did that work out?

I’m generally a Jay supporter. Everyone is adjusting to how he manages the lineup and pen. It’s the exact opposite to the previous staff. There have been some improvements and some regressions. I certainly haven’t called for him to be fired although I might if Bianco gets another start.

We have average pitching and a poor defense that is not a great combination.

You can hide 1 of those a lot of the time, but not both. If we had great pitching, there would be less op for errors.... Great fielding can hide some pitching weaknesses...

But clearly, he has no ACE, and is pitching a SAT/SUN guy on Friday, and we are lucky to have him. He needs a recruiting class under his belt before we label him a failure.

LSU baseball benefits more on NIL than anyone else. Just give it time.
