Tulane has bolstered its defensive line against Duke by adding Kam Hamilton, an experienced fifth-year player who started 22 games for the Green Wave before going undrafted in April. He was auto-enrolled in the draft because he did not have any college eligibility left, participated in workouts with the Saints and Arizona Cardinals but never signing an NFL contract. The NCAA recently adopted a rule change granted playing five years of college eligibility. Although players from the freshman class of 2022 were not grandfathered in, Hamilton received an injunction in court that allows him to play and specifies that Tulane will not be penalized if he is ruled ineligible down the road. The American Conference issued a statement last week that participating in an NFL tryout would not trigger a punishment.

The SEC did not really have a problem with attending a mini camp or a try out for the 22 guys. They had a problem with guys signing UDFA contracts. There is a difference if you wash the wax out of your ears.

But it was okay for other schools to do it.

Irrelevant. This was about signing professional contracts. Chambliss did not sign a contract.

Really poor attempt at changing the subject. You should go to the PT or watch Hannity to learn how to do it more effectively.

You don't have to sign anything to attend a mini camp? You just show up?

There is a new NCAA rule that you get 5 years to play 5, and Chambliss used a Mississippi judge to rule he can get 7 years.

Why would they? They are not in the SEC.

If the NCAA is allowing the vast leeway to hire former NFL players in some conference, it gives those conferences large advantages during playoffs and in deciding championship games.
Allowing some schools to violate rules and others to get expelled over it means the NCAA is a meaningless institution.

Hypocrisy. How anyone even gets hung up on this with their grandstanding morals but can't see giving a player 6th year eligibility is far more egregious towards the sport is just ignorant.

Not arguing the stupidity of that. But this about signing a pro contract. Unless I'm missing something, did Trinidad Chambliss sign a pro contract?

Could you provide the info without being rude? I am interested in understanding what was signed by any of them that would make a difference but I don’t want to ask if you’re going to be ugly about it

You get compensated being on mini camp teams as well which includes all the players playing in other SEC teams right now. If that's your narrative then why are they eligible and these guys not? How's getting a 6th year eligibility okay but not getting a 5th year for guys who never even sniffed an NFL practice? It's easy to see why the courts keep favoring with the players here.

They did not sign anything that constitutes a contract. But if you want my full take, throw their asses out too since it was their intent to get someone to offer them.

A UDFA is a bonfire contract between an ungrateful player who made his intentions known , and received consideration for his signature. He was in fact under a contingent employment contract meaning he was paid for his services beyond just mere expenses for his performance.

The CBA in the NFL requires all players going to training camp to be under contract with a specific team under the umbrella that is the NFL. Mini camp would be akin to a perspective employer buying you lunch and comping your parking under the CBA as a job interview under this argument. So if you want a job interview to be the same as an actual offer, be my guest. But, they are not.
