Did the ineligibility situation prepare Emery for life with BK?

Obviously, he was humiliated and humbled. I would assume he became more mature as a result. With Kelly coming in to weed out the rotten culture he may benefit from the negative experience

All hard lessons make you stronger. Emery is going to have a great year next year and parlay that into serious bank in the NFL.
Tre Bradford (what happened to him?)and a couple of freshmen are all we have...We need a reliable running back...I have no confidence in the transfer portal. Everyone there has some kind of issue with his present team, or he wouldn't be there.....

That’s not true at all. Sure, some are forced out or unhappy where they are, but that’s not the case for a lot of players in the portal. Some guys leave because of coaching and/or system transitions. Some leave to get more PT elsewhere. Others who have been successful in G5 or FBS leave to move up and prove they can do it on a bigger stage. There are plenty of reasons beyond discipline and discontent.

I wouldn’t write off the entire transfer pool like that. It’s more accurate to say everyone in the portal is “looking for a better situation.” Some of them want to move up from G5 to P5 programs, it FCS to FBS. Some of them have had scheme changes - see Apu Ika in 2020. Some have had coaching staff turnover.
Even the young guys who are impatient for playing time shouldn’t be dismissed. Yeah, they are probably better off staying and competing for a year or two in most cases. But wanting a quicker path to the field doesn’t mean they have character issues. It just means they want to play.
There are certainly some guys in the portal because of disciplinary issues, or because they’re looking for a payday. But that’s some - not all.

Usually means they aren’t good enough to start, so you’re taking a backup.

Could work out but could also backfire and fail.

Glad everyone didn't have this attitude or Joe Burrow would have been playing for McNeese.

USC's #1 RB in 2021 was was the previous #1 RB at Texas. He averaged almost 6 yards and carry and over 900 yards in 2021.
Trey Sermon was the #2 heavily used back at Oklahoma and left to be the starter at Ohio St. He had 870 yards in 7 games. Kid went over 300 in the conference championship game and then nearly 200 vs Clemson in the first round of the playoffs.
Thad Moss left NCSt with 6 catches as a freshman,, and the next time he plays in a season he has one of the best seasons by a TE in LSU history and wins a national championship.
Stetson Bennett walked on to UGA, transfered out, transfered back in with a scholarship, and 2 years later he is the MVP of the national championship game.
Etc, etc, etc.

quote:I feel like people say this every year about the RBs and most of the time (other than the Brossette year) they are wrong. Kiner and Goodwin were very highly rated recruits, as was Emery. RB is not one of the bigger concerns for next year's team
In an LSU historical comparison, the RBs are weak.

No transfer portal and we don't get Joe Burrow.
Everyone is cursing the transfer portal now, but without the portal we wouldn't have gotten Joe Burrow and a national championship. I'll take portal kids without hesitation.
