I think Romero did enough Sunday to secure the spot. Even though everyone got a hit, I think Romero made a statement. Pap riding the bench?

You do realize Romero would not have touched Houck on Sat
Pap will still play a lot

While I don't believe we'll see the change permanently just yet, I do believe that Romero's offense brings more to the table than Pap's defense

He has said before he does not hit well when at DH. He hits better when he's more involved in the game. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm curious to see his hitting stats when he is behind the plate vs his stats at DH.

The debate lately has been Romero's hitting as a DH vs him catching. There were stats posted in one of the game threads this weekend and the differences were staggering.

It's nice to have options that you can change out depending on matchups and that's what we will get going forward

Doesn't seem to hit as well when strictly DH.

Don't write his obit just yet. Mainieri is still the coach.

I'm still not sold on Paps being that much better defensively. Romero may have a problem throwing it to the pitcher, but he has a WAY better pop time to 2nd base than Paps

IMHO LSU needs to go with offensive production.

Probably room for both of them to get significant playing time in one capacity or another. In 2000 Brad Cresse started all 69 games at one position or another while Ryan Jorgensen played in 44 games with 29 starts.

Of course Papierski needs to get it going at the plate.

Why is an Ole Miss fan interested in which LSU baseball players should be playing or benched?

Hasn't Pap thrown out a higher percentage of runners on many more attempts?

ETA: He has. That kind of shits on your entire statement.

No. Keep Bryce DH. Greg at first. Romero catching. End of story.

And to the guy saying Romero wouldn't touch houck. How do you even know that? And so are you saying might as well have pap in if neither one can hit the starting pitcher?

5 page thread on this already from last night LINK

Here's some legit info from it:

quote:

Paps in batting .172 (5-29) against SEC pitchers. Romero is .290 (9-31) in SEC play.

quote:

Where Romero ranks on the team:
Batting Average 4th
Home Runs 1st
Slugging percentage 1st
Rbi's 3rd
At bats. 9th

Romero has 1/2 the at bats of most of our regular starters & more Rbi's than all but 2. At current pace, Romero would be leading the league in RBI's (given the at bats) Romero = RBI Machine

Yeah if Romero is at DH who do you take out? Its going to be either Romero or Pap catching, Bryce DH, Greg at first.

Really no other realistic options.

Correct. Which is not that strange in baseball

This. Only certain guys can DH and produce with regularity. Sitting in the dugout for 95% of the game can make it tough to maintain focus.

It comes down to whether CPM is willing to sacrifice a bit of defense for quite a bump in offensive production. Apparently he isn't.

With our inconsistent offense, we need to have our best bats in the line up, which means Bryce Jordan and Romero should be playing most every day.

Pap has a much better arm, so play him more against the teams with speed, otherwise split time at catcher with Romero the DH against tough lefties and sit Deichmann some of those games.
