Devin Fontenot Pitched Out Of His Mind, And Deserves A Standing Ovation Next Season!

We lost, our season is over, we got beat at home, and LSU is not going to Omaha. This can piss off any fan and cause them to lash out. But it also means we forget to talk about what we saw last night from Devin Fontenot.
He pitched out of his mind! Prior to last night, his longest outing was aganist Kentucky when he pitched 5 innings and reached 60 pitches. That was his limit. He never, ever, threw more than 60 pitches in a game.
Until last night...
In the Bottom of the 6th, down 4-2, CPM brought him in with 1 out and a runner on 1st. He would not give up another hit until the Bottom of the 12th when he gave up a single and then the eventual game-winning walk-off hit.
However, from the Bottom of the 6th until the Bottom of the 12th, before he gave up that first hit, he had 0 Hits and 10 Strikeouts. His final pitch count was 96 after throwing 6.1 Innings Pitched.
Hats off to this man for flat out leaving it all on the field last night and giving us a chance.
Looking forward to next season! Geaux Tigers!

Very gutsy performance. He has the right fire in his belly for it.

He did. He’s always had the stuff. If he does it consistently next year then he’ll make himself a nice chunk of money next June.

I will never forget his outing. He laid it all on the line. Proud to call him a Tiger. He battled some inconsistency this year but found his form again. Proud of him.

He got a standing ovation last night. Following each time he returned to the dugout. The team received one too. Although they made mistakes that cost them the series, there was no lack of heart on that field this past weekend.

I just wanted to make sure fans don't forget about his performance. He was finished the moment he gave up that hit, but CPM let him go and he did manage one more K so it felt like he would be fine.
This is also not a second-guess the coach post.
That said, the box score will forever show he gave up the game winning run but there was so many times earlier in the game where we screwed up on the base paths, something that is 100% on the coaching staff.
But anyways, I digress...

I hope he didn’t strain that shoulder, back, elbow, or has a sore arm next year.

Yep.
I rarely ever criticize our players. But when I perceive lack of effort from one that negates the effect of another it probably warrants it. So here goes.
Garza catches lazy. Not just last night but ever since he got behind home plate.
Runner should have never been on 2b. Fontenot is out there busting his tail with no margin for error and Garza is lazy.
I'll probably regret this. Don't like criticizing my players but that chafed my backside.

He was outstanding, and that's an understatement. The whole time he was putting up zero's, I kept thinking "it would be an unbelievable shame if the bats waste this performance".
In the end, he gets an "L" next to his name, but in reality he was pretty much the only reason LSU was still in it.

Agreed. Bookmarked this thread to bump it before his first start next year so people remember.

Why it went down as a wild pitch?! Clearly a passed ball on Garza. Should have been men on 1st and 2nd after that hit to RF and the game still in balance. Just reminds us that baseball is won and lost on the really small errors. Our mistakes on the base paths are another example...you can’t give the other team 2 “free” outs.

The video of mainieri holding antoine in the dugout was so surreal for me.
