O - meddle equals bad
base 4-3

Daronte - until he calls plays don't know what we have but the biggest takeaway is communication especially on back end is key, must be on same page, that allows you to play faster and more aggressive, film prep leads to more confidence and less stress on defense - really didn't talk scheme much at all

Baker - biggest reason he is here it ties to Texas which you must have on staff at LSU and also local ties in LA

Carter - fundamental technique sound

If nothing else, the respect factor will be noticeable from players to this defensive staff - I think that was half the battle last season, it took one half for that team to tune out Pelini, Johnson and Busch and that's why all are gone

Thomas - roster mgmt and dealing with off field issues
With changes coming with NIL you need this position to manage a lot of off field issues that are part of today's college athlete. Derek P can't obviously handle all of that. He looks old, A&M must have really aged him!

Maybe it's just me i know O said he will be more hands on with the defense, but something tells me he wont have much to say to Andre Carter idc if O was a DL coach

Pretty obvious O's main goal was to fix the miscommunication issues.

Hire guys who can relate to the players, coach technically sound football, and we'll worry about trying to figure out how to stop these elite 50ppg offenses later.

Defense will be good against bad offenses, garbage against good offenses, and we'll finish with 8-9 wins.

I don't think it means hands on the way people are suggesting it does. I think O clearly said we need to play zone better. I remember the first game when LSU found itself without Stingley, LSU could not move to play more zone, it was press man or bust and LSU busted all day. Early in the season, when teams went in motion, Coverage busts.

I just think Coach O is going to make sure next Summer LSU goes into game 1 with more than just being able to play press man across the field. At this level, should be able to play press man, soft man, Cover 1, Cover 2, Cover 3, and Man/zone combination, etc, etc.

I don’t think O survives 8 wins. They will get him with cause on title IX or some bullshite.

Thank God were easily gonna win more then 8. With our schedule, just 8 wins seems impossible. We should win 10 if were any better then last year

If you don't put the players first, schemes won't matter.

If you don't implement a quality scheme, modern offenses will carve you up no matter what players you have on defense.

I took it as, "Lets see what our players do best and put them into the scheme that allows them to be successful". So players then scheme vs. plugging square pegs into round holes. Plus when players trust you and believe in you they will play harder!! Just a fact.

Are communication problems the same as the players didn’t want to play for Pelini?

We also lost the young coaching on offense when we replaced Joe Brady with a dinosaur from the NFL.

I like our new hires on both sides of the ball.

We will see soon.

You can't do anything until your players buy into it.

Our season will rest in the hands of whether or not we have a QB to execute Peetz offense. Right now my money is on Max Johnson if Brennan doesn't heal and overtake him. My bet is TJ is gone which is why O is going after the Lourd kid. I like this kid BTW I say take him no matter what I think he is that good. If Brennan or Johnson can run Peetz offense we can win 10 games. Whole damm defense minus a couple of guys is coming back and I have faith in Jones, Baker and Carter to improve our defense.

Damn.

Valuing a rigid scheme, which Pelini did in his first stint here as well, over being flexible and putting players in the best position to succeed and building gameplans around your talent, is a major reason why we struggled in 2020.

If you actually go listen to what Jones said today, he emphasized putting players in roles where they can be successful, rather than maintaining a rigid adherence to a scheme that may not fit the talent you have in a given year.

We will get our defense back.
We have the entire offense back, with three quality QBs.
Throughout last season we had freshmen in key positions, without benefit of normal practice.
I expect a 11-1 season.

I thought it was interesting that O said he wants to play more zone and keep everything in front of them to eliminate big plays. This time last year he wanted a blitzing man to man defense to create more turn overs, and that is what he got. He just didn't realize that his dbs were going to get toasted every game? O just doesn't know what he wants. Looks like lasts years defensive issues were more on O than Pelini.
