The difference in the two stadiums...

That over hang in Oregon's stadium keeps a lot of noise in, it wouldn't be even close to as loud as Tiger Stadium if it didn't have that. I will say this, though. LSU has seen a huge drop off in loudness in the latter half of the 2000s. Ticket prices are too damn high for the old drunk cajuns like we used to have. Also, the student section doesn't seem to care as much. The last game where it was consistently loud the entire time was the '07 Florida game. All in all, I think the over hang wouldn't matter if the ticket prices were lowered and the students payed attention. Also, you have to think, the guy that writes these kinds of articles and blogs and such, he might have gone to say an LSU vs. Kentucky game and maybe an Oregon vs. USC game, if he went to the two marquee games at each school, then he would be able to tell us whose was louder. Ask any opposing football team member about which stadium he would hate going to more, and I guarantee you seven times out of ten he'll say LSU. When Saban was here it would have been nine times out of ten LSU. We have to get louder this year.

Ticket prices during Saban's years is his point. It's not a Miles vs Saban argument. It's a Corporate Sell Outs vs Drunk Cajuns argument.

Ive been living in Portland now for 4 years and have seen two games at Autzen. There is no way Autzen compares to Tiger Stadium when the crowd gets rocking, and in a crucial game in the 4th quarter, but its very loud for its size. What I liked about being at the stadium is that even though the Ducks were blowing out UCLA, for the most part the crowd stayed, where as if its a boring game or blow out in Tiger Stadium, half of the crowd leaves. Hell, this happens sometimes in a close game.

People said husky stadium was louder than tiger stadium so I wrote a check and made the trip. It wasn't even close there's a track around the field, like a highschool team's football stadium. The campus was amazing at Washington but the stadium was junior varsity not even close to death valley. Don't believe the pathetic 12 hype.

That's because the Oregon fans show up to the stadium and go straight to the game. LSU fans show up first thing in the morning and tailgate and drink all day, and then go to the game.

I think LSU fans suffer from sobering up as the game goes on. Start to feel thirsty, a little headachy. The only way to avoid this is to sneak alcohol in, which isn't too hard I guess but it is kind of juvenile for an adult to have to do. And security is psychotic about students sneaking alcohol.

Maybe all fans suffer this way, but I'd think it's nmore pronounced at LSU bc of the tailgating.

It all depends on the time of day and whether it's first or second half. A night game in the first half of a big game in Tiger satdium is jet engine loud. A day game, or after half-time, when no matter the score, the "fans" leave TS, I give it to Nike U.

How could TS be always loudest? Fair weather/early leave "fans" sell thier tickets to true LSU fans!

I can't stand UDUB but they can be loud as well. This decade hasn't been kind to them on the field but when you come off an 0-12 season you shouldn't expect it to be what it was like in their hay day.

Not completely true. For some yes but for many it isn't. Stadium parking only opens 4 hours before kickoff so they don't have as much time to drink. That does help.

Fwiw they were loud before the expansion which brought that overhang. Many older people sit in that section as well.

All of these tiger fans denigrating Autzen really helps to prove your point.

They are probably louder, but more things go into an atmosphere than Loud. I have never been to a game in Autzen but here is how I think the match-up would go.
Pre-game - LSU (Landslide)
Tradition - LSU
Facilities - Oregon
Amenities - Oregon
Fan Knowledge - LSU
Average Sound - Oregon
Peak Sound - Tie.
Crowd Size - LSU

Engineering question, besides sound would 92,000 people have more force than 50,000? Kinda like Joules? I have no idea.

Autzen was built in 1967, 44 years ago. Hardly a NEW stadium. When were you there?

That only matters for the tailgaters that actually park in the stadium parking lot... there are a number of lots surrounding the complex where folks get going very early.

You obviously haven't been to Autzen. Normally, they don't open the gates to the parking lot until 2 am on game day. You know the same time the bars close the night before. The streets around the stadium are full of motor homes waiting for the lot to open at 2 am. Then it's party time.
