re: If LSU wins against Oregon...

Posted by Duck07 on 5/20/11 at 3:19 pm to
I just don't see any rematch happening, regardless of who wins and loses the first game. I think the voters would say that we've already seen this game and go elsewhere. I could see the loser of our game still making it to the MNC, but it would have to be against another conference opponent, Stanford, Bama etc.

Of course, this could all get thrown out the window if there are multiple 1 and 2 loss teams but outside of some extremely controversial call in a close game, I just don't see us meeting up twice this season.

I wish he was still in BR!

I just hope that JJ doesn't have the same kind of improvement that Dennis Dixon had when Crowton left and Chip came in.
Camo and a Duck call, very original, I can't believe no one has ever done that before against Oregon.

re: Death Valley vs. Autzen Stadium

All of these tiger fans denigrating Autzen really helps to prove your point.
Last season we had a fan who attended most all of the games provide his own "Duck Fan experience" whether it was at Autzen or on the road. This is the game at home against Stanford and he did an amazing job on all of them. Just browse through his playlist to see them all

Duck Fan Perspective - Oregon vs Stanford
Back in 07 against ASU we had a 128.2 reading iirc (i know it was 127 or 128) at Autzen and that wasn't the loudest that I've heard it inside, the Halloween USC game being one of those. I ended up hosting Stewart Mandel of SI that ASU weekend and the comparison he used was LSU, whether it was the stadium noise, the night before the game and with the tailgating, he clearly thinks highly of you guys. Ultimately his opinion was the TS can get louder, but that Autzen maintains a higher level more consistently. I don't see a problem with that because its a subjective argument and both stadiums get loud as frick. I suppose we could argue over who has the nicer Track stadium though

This is what the hippies do underneath the footbridge on your way to the stadium

what's with an arizona fan talking smack about Oregon and this game? When was the last time you guys won the Pac 10 in football? When was the last time you did anything in football? The Desert Swarm days?

Please don't embarrass our conference against Ok State again. kthxbai
Consider OU runs a pass heavy spread and UO runs a run-heavy spread, it's not that shocking. Once that 4th qtr hits and we've got a lead it turns into the hurry up and wait offense.

re: Key to stopping Oregon's Offense?

What is so "gimmicky" about our offense? That we run hurry up every play? Or is it the zone read that is so gimmicky? Really, this nonsense about being gimmicky and players being a product of the system is absurd - every player is a product of their system.

I also don't get why you think that having a huge TOP discrepancy will help you, under Chip we've always had horrible TOP because of how quickly we play on O. If you want a single key, its this: a disciplined front 7. Boise didn't overpower our OL and even against OSU, Heyward was the only one who really stood out but it was the defense playing together as a single unit that allowed for that.

As Bison has mentioned, we've got some really talented TEs and going off what we saw in the SG, we're going to be using more double tight sets and even lining up under C - it would seem to me that we're going to be passing a bit more early on since pass blocking is easier than run blocking.

As for Oregon having no defense, blah blah blah. We sell out to stop the run and if JJ can't hit his throws over the top and convert on 3rd down, you're not going to score many points. You guys have a great secondary, but you also are forgetting the fact that so do we and DT is a much better qb than JJ is.

It's going to be a heck of a game, but if your front 7 (and ss) don't play disciplined and get our of their lanes, it may not be a pretty day for you guys. The opener can't get here soon enough.
LMJ at AU and Dyer at UO still ends up with LMJ being the better back. We tried to recruit Dyer to Eugene but he wouldn't have put up near the same results that LMJ did last year.
you don't need to declare or sign-up for the ufl draft. Oregon's Spencer Paysinger was drafted and he posted on his twitter about an hour later saying he had never even spoken with anybody from the ufl or the sac mt. lions.

as odd as it sounds, udfa's might be better served to play a season of the ufl (aug-oct) and be in game ready shape rather than wait out the uncertainty of when camp will even begin.

look at for the omaha nighthawks, who have maurice clarett on roster already and drafted jeremiah macstoli

Hroniss Grasu and Karrington Armstrong are fighting for the Center spot. Hamani Stevens finally comes back from his mission but he won't be ready to take the starting spot for another year.

the coaches do a draft but you can't take multiple starters and backups of the same positions so it gets split pretty well.

we play on field turf (or whatever the latest synthetic fields are made of)

lache is 3rd string but i wouldn't count out tra carson getting reps as a true frosh even though he doesn't arrive till fall.

of the returning OL, York plays LG, Asper RT and Weems and Cody are two guys with starting experience at T and G.

So far true fr Colt Lyerla has been pretty impressive and DT has been looking his way on 3rd and 4th down.
Man, living on the oregon coast we have to worry about tsunamis not tornado's. A bit of advice if you live in an area around the storms, with all of the damage, prepare for fresh water issues so go fill up your bath tub and jugs of water while you can. Your water heater is a good place too, assuming of course your not affected by structural damage.

I keep a bug out bag in my house in case of natural disasters so for those of you who can still prepare do so. Stay safe everybody.

Darron Thomas may not be the runner that Macstoli was, but he is lightyears ahead of him when it comes to passing the football. I don't get where you guys are saying he had a terrible performance against AU or even that somehow the score in that game should have been greater - we beat the snot out of Cam from the first snap and lost by a last second fg, no matter how you want to cut it, that was a close, hard fought game.

Also, this idea that you are preparing for Oregon for over 6 months is seriously laughable. Have any of you saying this nonsense ever been around a team because while I've never been to LA, I can guarantee that Chavis was not out in spring practices having his D practice against the Inside Zone read/Outside Zone read and at the pace we run it at in games. Just because we play you first doesn't mean you'll have "6 months of preparation."

Some of you homers are good for a laugh though

Comparing the Oregon offense to WVU and MsSt is just stupid, frankly. I'm hopeful for this game because I don't think JJ is capable of beating our defense. I know, I know, you've got the biggest, baddest OL that has ever been assembled and you could run against the Ravens, Steelers and anybody else in the nfl. The problem is, how do you respond to 2nd and 3rd and long because this is where I see JJ having the biggest problems against our defense. Stanford was successful with the same kind of strategy 2 years ago but they also have Andrew Luck throwing dimes 40 yards down field to keep drives going, do you honestly believe JJ can do the same? I don't, and I look at Brian Brohm regressing under Kragthorpe as another example of that.

This isn't to say that I don't believe LSU isn't capable of winning this game for some of the same reasons y'all have listed, I just think that the Ducks come out on top on this one.

re: LSU in Duck's sight

at what point in fall camp do you expect the team to start game planning for Oregon's offense? the biggest key to stopping our offense isn't necessarily in having a singular force disrupt everything at the los but rather in the front 7 playing disciplined ball, and that means practice reps against it. while there will be adequate time to prep, fall camp isn't about game planning for your first opponent and I've heard a lot of talk about "oregon hasn't seen our offense." Frankly, I don't think anybody in the Cas is worried about the LSU offense and we can make the same argument since we've been implementing our "blur wishbone" too.
