If you're an assistant coach right now, aren't you clearly more concerned about your immediate future? Your boss is getting 16 mil but your buyout (assuming you have one) is miniscule by comparison. My point is that there's still 5 games left. What incentive do these assistants have to do anything other than going through the motions? Sure they're watching film and coaching their guys ... but I'd be shocked if they're doing much more than what is expected to be the minimum. And yes ... I'll be downvoted and blasted by comments to the tune of "These guys have their pride! This is LSU! They have commitments to these young men!" Really? C'mon ... they're human and know they'll be somewhere else soon.
I get it that Woody's approach is deemed best because it clears the air now and jump starts the search. I'm just concerned about the preparation ... and the comittment these last 5 games.
Ok, ok ... I'll save you baws the trouble ...

If you're worried about your future as an assistant not knowing if you'll have a job in 2 months here, wouldnt you be coaching your arse off auditioning for the new coach we're hiring as well as other coaches/schools looking to hire?

You think these guys aren't trying to put together a great season to get the next gig???

You better do the best you possibly can to make a good impression on anyone who may care.

I can tell what kind of employee you are.

You're not totally off, but you seem to have overlooked that these guys might want to coach again. While they will likely be more distracted than usual as their job prospects are more in the forefront, they can't simply mail it in and hope to fail upward.
Your "dead men walking" analogy doesn't quite fit.

This is an opportunity for the coaches on this staff to show true grit. How will they do faced with so much adversity? You can tell a lot about a person by how they handle adversity. Some people are front runners who handle things great when things are going well. The minute things get dicey they fold like a chair. Others rise to the occasion and overcome adversity.
Being on a staff with a lame duck head coach isn't an ideal situation but these guys are professionals. Most of these guys have most of their career ahead of them so they can't just show up and ride the clock to draw check.

They are all lame ducks, but they will find new jobs in time.
Their contract with LSU will be honored and they too will receive buyouts. Counting O’s 17 million the total buyout money will exceed 20 million dollars. None of the assistants will starve.

For your answer you need only reference the great Bill Heywood from Little Big League.
Billy Heywood : Well, that's up to you, you're the free agent. Hey Mac, what's the going rate for an absent-minded pitcher who can't get anybody out?

You are basically getting an interview on national television for the remaining schedule.
Assuming you want to continue in the coaching profession, if I were them, I would continue trying to kick azz.
And, if their Mama's were mediocre or better, they were taught that you never let your team down. Ever.

If they know they'll probably be looking for a new job next year, what do you think is going to get you the best next gig you can - going through the motions and mailing it in or trying to finish as strong as you can?
Dumb thread is dumb.

Everyone knows the best way to show your worth is by phoning it in.

It's amazing some of you actually manage to dress yourselves in the morning!

Those minuscule minimum 6 figure buyouts probably won’t cause them to starve.

To do well on their side of the ball so teams would want to hire them ?
