Day after the bloodbath: good, bad and ugly

The good: We are still recruiting on an elite level. This season is a shite show, but next season is actually shaping up to be halfway decent with returning talent. Coaching changes will most certainly happen. Get ready for "private donors" to step up and help LSU buy out contracts as necessary for the DC position if needed (when). He has a track record of fixing things relatively quickly (see Matt Canada).
The bad: Coach O may be a great position coach, a great CEO, and recruiter - but he depends 100% on an elite level OC and DC. The problem for Coach O is that his evaluations of OCs and DCs are a crapshoot at best. Matt Canada was a terrible fit, as is Pellini. These are not terrible coaches, but they are terrible FITS for LSU.
The ugly: The current team and coaches appear clueless on how to fix the problems on the field (and, perhaps, off the field). This is troubling after game 5. Not only do they seem clueless, but whatever adjustments have been made are making matters worse. There is no leadership whatsoever, players have regressed. Communication on the field is broken. Players are out of position. A simple misdirection leaves the D completely dumbstruck. This cannot happen with Division 1 athletes. Forget about making halftime adjustments, this coaching staff cannot make game-to-game adjustments or even mid-season adjustments. Ultimately, the buck stops with O - and he seems clueless as well.

Maybe. Let’s revisit this after signing day and see how many of these elite commitments actually sign the LOI and show up on campus.

Canada was a savant compared to Pelini 2.0.

Why would ANYONE think Orgeron is a “great CEO”?
Agree he is a great recruiter and position coach.

Orgeron has clearly demonstrated he is a top head coach. Not really up for discussion

The good: I didn’t see any injuries yesterday.

Yaw yaw is supposed to be good at getting teams fired up to play and mentally prepared. I don't blame the defense for this one but they looked lethargic in the 2nd half. He's in trouble is this 2020 class gets away from him.

This - people better get ready for defects between now and early signing.
AL lays up a 50+ point win then AL, GA, OhSt, FL and Clemson will probably get some of the current commits and prospects.

Of all the things I witnessed, that was most maddening.
How many times did a simple misdirection go for huge chunks of yardage.
And why in the hell did no one pick up the guy in motion. Auburn ran plays to the motion man many a time and LSU failed to pick him up almost every time.

The best class in LSU history came when we were so bad we fired our head coach halfway through the year. We signed:
Jacoby Stevens
Klavon Chaisson
Austin Deculus
Tyler Shelvin
Jacob Phillips
Grant Delpit
Todd Harris
Kary Vincent
Myles Brennan
Ed Ingram
Tyler Taylor
Saahdiq Charles
Neil Farrell
Patrick Quenn
Clyde Edwards Helaire
Justin Thomas
Racey McMath
Jontre Kirkland
Tori Carter
Justin Jefferson
The misses were Moffitt, Stewart, Netherly and Narcisse. THAT class drove this team to the championship. The best of that class is gone, and the 2018 class, which is powering this team, is contributing, in 2020, only:
Terrace Marshall
Chasen Hines
Micah Baskerville
Chris Curry
Damone Clark
Cam Wire
Jaray Jenkins
Compare those two lists, and you will see THE problem. If you quit looking for other problems your head won’t hurt so much.

Coach O has proven he is not disciplined or mature enough to handle success. He used the offseason to ride high on the success of last season. Books, television appearances, and chasing young poon.
But he has recognized his problems in the past and corrected them once before. Thats how he was so successful last season. Maybe he can correct this too and have the program ready for next season.

Didn't O say after the Missouri loss that we were going to "simplify" the defense and even say something to the effect that whatever the initial defensive call is, that's what we are staying in regardless of what shifts the offense may show? I can't find the quote but I remember reading it and thinking the only thing more asinine than taking that position is to come right out and say it.

I disagree On the Pelini assessment. I dont Think fit is the issue. I thinknits Coaching.
I expected A struggle transitioning back to a 4-3 but that’s not what we’re seeing. We’re seeing a complete breakdown and regression from anyone who was in the team last year.
In theory, 4-3 or 3-4 our secondary assignments should remain the same. They haven’t and we’re fricking up

If you’re going to have a “CEO” coach he better make the right hires. That’s the one job if a CEO.

This team ain’t worth a broke-dick dog right now. This 0’s ship. He brought us here. He needs to get us out or move on.

Who do think brought Joe Brady in? Just stop. Yes, Pelini is a dumpster fire. O will get this sorted out.

Why do you think he is a great position coach. When since he has been here have we had an elite d-line ? He is a good recruiter and that is it and that can be enough actually if he can get good coaches to help.
