I agree. Daronte can only get better with time in my opinion. These aren't his players and they do not know his scheme.

Bo Nix had a once in a lifetime performance. LSU had him bottled up a few times and he still managed to slip away.

Daronte has been ok. The defense tackles good in spots but could be much better. There is a lack of consistent technique in the basic fundamentals of football. In my humble opinion the OC and DC are trying to repair the mess that Coach O has made. O simply is a dummy when it comes to X’s and O’s. Both coordinators would be good to great under a better HC. Coach is toxic to the team morale with his excuses. Our team this year is simply less than what our fans desire of a fighting tiger team. I place blame squarely on the shoulders of the HC. Coach O must go. I was very fond of Coach O but times are a changing. My initial impression of Coach O was that he wanted the best for LSU. Now I’m not so sure that is the case. Surely Coach must realize that the handwriting is on the wall.
It’s only a matter of time before O is fired! Coach O must go. Geaux fighting tigers. I would like to see a young to middle aged HC come in and recruit well and teach good fundamental football, especially defense. Defense rules in the SEC. I would love to have Coach Kirby Smart as our HC but I truly believe that he loves the GA bulldogs too much to leave their program. You never know what $$$$$$$ will do though.

What decent offense have they played that has been tested?

They are better and more enthusiastic and seem to be getting better each game.

Daronte, for his skill level, is doing a great job. I still don't think he was a great hire but he no doubt is improving this defense.

We haven’t even played a team with a pulse yet. Let’s wait until the meat of the schedule before we start jerking each other off over having a better defense than last year. Hopefully, than was not the benchmark we set for ourselves.

“Daronte Jones is definitely the best DC in the SEC.”

This will be a fun thread to revisit after the Ole Miss and Alabama games.

I don’t think it’s completely fair to blame Jones for this.

He called a decent game but the damn players refused to tackle. If the defense would have made the plays when they were there to be made, we would have won even with terrible offense.

Of all the coaching problems, right now Jones is currently way down the list. Behind Ed, Peetz, Online coach and RB coach.

I agree. He's a good hire. Bo Nix played the game of his life. Our guys were all over and around him but he Burroughed his way that night. The players played hard but lost.

All things considered, I think he's about as good as we could have done. Feel bad for the guy, and I hope someone sees his potential and gives him another shot at a coordinator job. He will have learned on the job here, and be better elsewhere

Yes he could…if our kids tackled, Auburn may not have scored a point.

To say there isn’t a marked difference between the defense this year and last year would be to be dishonest/wrong

They literally couldn't have gotten worse after last year.

The defense for the 2020 season was an abortion.

Pelini should be shot along with O for hiring him.
