They switched their scheme twice in an effort to stop Nix from scrambling. Sometimes you have to just credit the other guy for an amazing effort and play. Several different players were flummoxed by Nix.

The Auburn game was well coached defensively. If anyone could tackle Bo Nix we'd have held them to 10-14 points. We had all 3 of their 4th down plays defended perfectly. On the long TD Burns had a chance, Mike Jones had a chance, Ojulari had a chance, Baskerville had a chance. We took away all of his options, for whatever reason just could not tackle him. Even Gaye missed a pretty easy sack late in the game. I don't know what else you do as a DC if 4 guys miss sacks on 1 play.
Also, look at our 4th quarter possessions offensively.
3 plays, 5 yards 0:57
6 plays, 20 yards 2:28
3 plays, 3 yards 1:49
7 plays, 21 yards 2:01
19 plays, 49 yards - 2.58 YPP. 1 rushing play for 4 yards. This is after having drives stall at the Auburn 14, 3, 5, and 21 yard line earlier in the game.
Max 4th Q Stats: 8/17, 45 yds, INT. 1 rush, 0 yards. We really criticizing Jones here?

Lol calling him a good hire is a stretch. He was a better hire than bo or Peetz

If we get one or two more sacks against AU we win and the narrative is different. D has put us in positions to win aside from UCLA game.

No the players didn’t play. The DL didn’t wrap up and the DE kept overpursuing. That isn’t on his playcalling. He called a good game on defense really. Our players just played poorly. We have to blame the players for poor performance more than anything again Nix.

They had pressure on Nix all night. Nix was just having the game of his life and escaping by inches on those scrambles....the one for the touchdown was ridiculous he escaped 3x before throwing the TD. If it were any other night other than that night those same pressures would have yielded sacks

Daronte Jones was a good hire
Especially considering LSU's first 2-3 options said no. He's doing very well considering how much of a reach he was.

Agree…He’s establishing himself and I expect will continue to improve

We have allowed 50% of the points this season in the 4th qtr. That is on the offense mostly which has failed to get FDs in crunch time much less points...

When your offense is not on the field long with 3 and outs or a long play for a touchdown which most drives have been this year, your defense is on the field too long and tires out!

Again-you can coach players till you are blue in the face about fundamentals, containment, and such....but in the heat of a game-they still have mental lapses....they still jump offsides, they still hold, block in the back, and blow assignments. Unless you are at practice, you can't 100% be sure they are not coaching those techniques....

Meh, he’s an improvement over Pelini, but I wouldn’t go much further than that.
Our LB play is absolute garbage and we’re not getting off the field on 3rd downs. Tackling is still lacking too.
Bugg Strong and Mike Jones (who) are both Sophs so maybe they can give us more athletic play at the LB position next season. It looks right now that we are sticking with the SRs Clark and Baskerville.

When Orgeron gets canned, hopefully the new coach will give both Peetz and Jones their walking papers as well. LSU is not the place for a rookie coordinator to learn on the job, at least not if we hope to be SEC contenders again soon.

Good, not great. At LSU at expect great.

Yeah. He’s beginning to gel for sure.

You are comparing him to the lowest common denominator. He won’t be retained by the next coach.

We have major problems if we're using the 2020 season as a measuring stick.

Anyone would have an improvement compared to last year. Pelini was completely incompetent. Jones is okay, but we are still not great on defense. We still can't tackle!
