Kyle will do well for us. He's tough and he's a winner. His criticized skinny legs carried him to a Naty, an AA, 13 NFL seasons, I believe 5 pro bowls and has been around a lot of talent.

My issue with the hire is can he evaluate top tier talent and can he recruit?
You guys realize that recruiting these days is 90% about money, right? The days of coaches being good recruiters is over. Money gets the players to campus. Hopefully your coaches are good enough to get them to play well. I have faith that Kyle can do that. (I also think he could recruit too if that wasn’t irrelevant at this point).

I’d agree with you if the DL coach from Ruston High wasn’t a 12 year starter in the NFL that made the Pro Bowl 6 of his years while also being a BCS champion from the school he now coaches for. Kyle Williams is one of the best to ever do it at his position. As great as he was on the field, he’s an even better hu

Well let’s take a look at another LSU legend with even more stars in his crown.

Kevin Faulk really worked out well as a running backs coach, didn’t he?

Same exact thing applies to Kevin Mawae. I hope one day he is on the LSU staff. Coaching is teaching what you know and have experienced. If that is at a very high level, it doesn't get any better than that. Add his love for LSU and both Mawae and Williams will be great additions to the LSU staff ....hopefully one day. LSU is on the upswing.

Can he recruit? Valid question.
I believe LSU has people for that in the background to identify top talent in the country. Once they’re identified, I believe he would be able to evaluate them properly.

Also Faulk wasn’t undersized and had to rely on technique. He was one of the best rb prospects to ever come out of la.
Not to say he wasn’t technical…but he had some things you couldn’t teach

Recruiting has gotten a lot easier.

You used to have to meet with a recruit that you wanted and been like "listen kid, we like you a lot but if you sign with us then we're definitely NOT going to have $250k / year transferred into your bank account in equal installments every month" wink wink

If you weren't a good recruiter then they might have thought you really weren't going to pay them and they'd go somewhere else.

But now you get to be like "listen kid, we like you a lot and if you sign with us then we're definitely going to have $250k / year transferred into your bank account in equal installments every month"

So it really eliminates potential confusion

However, LBs and Safeties have to be ready to clean it up when they disrupt a play and it goes off script. Great defenses do both of those things. Right now I still worry about our safety play.

I get that - We have not had LSU talent on defense the last 3 years and Kelly gets some blame for that absolutely.

But this will be the most talent we've had on defense since he's been here, I don't think there is any question about that. Let's see what happens.

Oh I absolutely agree. Safety is the only spot I am still concerned about. Interested to see if they pick up a Spring Portal safety.

I love this hire. My nephew was on the O-line at Ruston the past four years and had nothing but respect for the way Kyle got the D-line to tap into their own potential and make disruptions a common occurrence.

I guess go ahead and bring on the down votes. Watched both in the state championship game this year, and Central totally destroyed them on both sides of the ball. It wasn’t even close!!!

To add to that, I know you only have what you have to work with on the highschool level. I’m one of the biggest KW fans there is, but we won’t know a thing until the season starts.

LSU kind of recruits itself!

That doesn't play anymore. It's NiL, playing time , and TV. These guy's are subcontractors now, if they don't get what they want they portal out, or don't come here at all.

Not true. Have you not watched our defensive back play the last few years.

Except that there was a time when he was recruited. He is in a good position to know what to say and do when he is in a home.
From my perspective, he could be the most effective recruiter on the staff, given what he has accomplished.

Fantastic hire…. I’m curious if he’ll need some initial help with rotations and the flow once the season gets moving.. I imagine it won’t be difficult with his experience in calling a game.
