Dandy Don Count Down-LSU’s Five Toughest Football Games of 2025

No. 5 Vs. South Carolina (Oct. 11)
If LaNorris Sellers doesn’t get hurt, does LSU beat South Carolina on the road last year? Like it or not — and I know that ticked off a lot of you immediately — it’s fair to ask the question. Before being sidelined in the second half, Sellers completed 9-of-16 passes for 113 yards and an interception while rushing for 88 yards and two scores on just 10 carries. He went on to lead the Gamecocks to a season-ending win over Clemson, breaking 18 tackles in that game alone. Performances like that generate Heisman hype — and that’s exactly what Sellers carries into this season. In fact, he edged out Garrett Nussmeier for First-Team All-SEC honors at SEC Media Days.
South Carolina also added Rashul Faison, an All-Mountain West selection from Utah State, and they’ll run behind a solid offensive line led by right guard Trovon Baugh. And need I remind you: this team just barely missed the playoff last season after closing the regular season with six straight wins. On defense, they’ll need to replace some key pieces on the line, but Dylan Stewart returns after posting 6.5 sacks and forcing three fumbles last fall. He’s a future star.
As if this game weren’t tough enough by itself, LSU will host South Carolina the week after traveling to face Ole Miss. Thankfully, the Tigers have a tune-up beforehand against Southeastern on Sept. 20, so it’s not like the Gamecocks are catching LSU in the middle of a gauntlet. Still, Vanderbilt the following week could be a sleeper-tough matchup, with legitimate NFL talent returning for the Commodores. And as Alabama found out last year, Vanderbilt’s home-field advantage isn’t a laughing matter anymore.
Admittedly, hype helped propel this game over others like Ole Miss and Texas A&M, but if Sellers and Stewart continue their rise, don’t be surprised to see South Carolina back in the playoff conversation come November.[/quote]

Where’s the rest of the list? Was there supposed to be a shock factor of USC being #5 on the list? He’s probably right. Sellers is preseason first team SEC after all

This to me is a major hurdle for LSU. Clemson is a good team (especially since we are playing there), but it's the psychological thing with the openers we've had lately.

Clemson is a good team
Per Lindy’s…if my memory serves me correctly. Clemson has:
AA QB 1st team
3 WR in the top 25 (in the country)
1 OL in the top 15 ish
TWO DL 1st team AA. One DE and one DT
A second DT is in the top 25
2nd or 3rd team AA CB
On paper, Clemson should beat LSU’s arse. But they were also 0-3 vs the SEC last year arse well.
Who the hell knows what will happen?

OU could be important just because of its place on the schedule, but shouldn’t be bigger than A&M.
@ Ole Miss for revenge maybe, but I also see them being middle of SEC this year. Not as good as Florida, A&M, Bama, etc

Wrong. We have a bye week before SC.

I been saying it on here this and Florida are the 2 bigger trap games people seem to be forgetting about because they're at home. Both these teams can sneak up on LSU at home. SC deservedly should've been in the playoffs last year.
They got absolutely rammed by the media when if they actually watched that team they had an argument about midway through the season to the end they were among the best looking team. Definitely looked top 5. Had they also did their job and realized their loss to LSU was due to their QB getting hurt. That game was looking like it might get ugly for LSU until he got hurt.
Knowing what we do now looking at the playoff teams, SC absolutely deserved a shot compared to some of the back end teams that went in. I don't know if the SEC is as dominant as it was in the past but there's definitely media agenda to prevent getting SEC teams in the playoffs.

Crazy how little importance people are putting in Norman at night in late Nov
They will be 5-0 heading into red river and will be a problem and might be a playoff elimination game
For them.

I agree those are the five toughest games. South Carolina is stacked. Florida is improving. A&M is strong defensively and LSU has an unfortunate history with Marcel Reed. And #1 & #2 on this list are self evident.
LSU and Brian Kelly make it or break it these five weekends.

I'm telling yall, the SC game is going to be tough. The qb for them is a beast.

Don’t forget the revenge factor for South Carolina
Sellers has said he’s circled lsu ever since and it still bugs him.

Exactly. They were playing as good as anyone last 4 or games in 2024. He reminds me of Newton. He is very dangerous, IMO

Every game will be tough as long as Kelly is here.
