He did well within the defensive game plan that was asked of him in this game. The plan was to give them the short passes and make sure tackles...Clark made his tackles. Well done.

His weakness though, is defending the run. Identifying where the runner is going, being timely to seal a hole. He was bad at it last year, bad at it against UCLA and then we played an FCS team, G5 team and an air raid that doesn't run the ball. So we've not really faced a team that can or will attack the defense in that way.

Auburn might be a little more willing and able to after the defense that way. We'll see.

I mean, not really, he had 1 single defensive win stop the entire game among his 15 tackles.

Here's every tackle he made among his 15:

[1] 1 and 10 at MSU25 Marks,Joquavious rush for 5 yards gain to the MSU30 (Clark,Damone Burns,Major).
[2] 1 and 10 at MSU15 Rogers,Will pass complete to Marks,Joquavious for 5 yards to the MSU20 (Clark,Damone Baskerville,Micah).
[3] 3 and 5 at MSU20 Rogers,Will pass complete to Williams,Austin for 22 yards to the MSU42 (Ward,Jay Clark,Damone), 1ST DOWN.
[4] 2 and 1 at LSU13 Marks,Joquavious rush for 0 yards to the LSU13 (Farrell Jr.,Neil Clark,Damone).
[5] 1 and 10 at LSU10 Rogers,Will rush for 4 yards gain to the LSU06 (Clark,Damone).
[6] 2 and 6 at LSU6 Rogers,Will pass complete to Williams,Austin for 4 yards to the LSU02 (Clark,Damone).
[7] 1 and 10 at MSU10 Rogers,Will pass complete to Marks,Joquavious for 8 yards to the MSU18 (Clark,Damone Burns,Major).
[8] 2 and 2 at MSU18 Rogers,Will pass complete to Marks,Joquavious for 7 yards to the MSU25 (Clark,Damone Baskerville,Micah), 1ST DOWN.
[9] 1 and 10 at MSU25 Rogers,Will pass complete to Polk,Makai for 4 yards to the MSU29 (Clark,Damone) PENALTY LSU Face Mask (Clark,Damone) 15 yards from MSU29 to MSU44, 1ST DOWN.
[10] 2 and 10 at MSU36 Rogers,Will pass complete to Johnson,Dillon for 7 yards to the MSU43 (Clark,Damone).
[11] 2 and 10 at MSU25 Rogers,Will pass complete to Marks,Joquavious for 8 yards to the MSU33 (Clark,Damone).
[12] 1 and 10 at LSU22 Marks,Joquavious rush for 8 yards gain to the LSU14 (Clark,Damone).
[13] 2 and 2 at LSU14 Rogers,Will pass complete to Polk,Makai for 9 yards to the LSU05 (Clark,Damone Baskerville,Micah), 1ST DOWN.
[14] 2 and 9 at MSU35 Rogers,Will rush for 6 yards gain to the MSU41 (Clark,Damone).
[15] 2 and 8 at LSU38 Rogers,Will rush for 10 yards gain to the LSU28 (Clark,Damone), 1ST DOWN.

So, 1 tackle for no gain on a 2nd and 1 which was his only defensive win stop the entire game. You can maybe argue the 4 yard gain on 2nd and goal from the 6 could be a defensive stop, but I'd say it's a tossup at best there between defensive or offensive win.

It was literally 14 other tackles that went for 4-10 yard gains, and 1 22 yard gain where they probably split a zone there.

4-5 yards on a 1st and 10 is a win for the offense every time. It would be a different story if I saw things like a 4 yard gain on 3rd and 7, getting them off the field. But 4-5-6 yard gains in those situations above are not "good plays" for the defense in that respect.

He played within what he had to, but it wasnt a "good game" by him really in any shape of the imagination. He also missed 2 tackles and had 2 penalties.

Glad he plays for himself, LSU, and the coaches. What a waste if he plays for the "Fans".

The players and coaches that brought us the most fame and glory are some of the ones being treated the worst.

No one tackles a guy after a five yard gain like clarke. If the game plan every week is to let him catch it then tackle him, clarke will be all sec.

Thunderbird 1100 is correct, Clark had a lot of tackles but Flott’s impact on the LSU vs Miss St. game was more significant. No doubt Clark is a beast of a player but being muscle bound and out of position half the time is really not at all impressive to me. Flott was player of the game and the week in the SEC. Nothing but quality play from Flott. He is much improved and a *ell of a player. Geaux fighting tigers

No. Flott had one turnover and caused another fumble. Ironically, it was recovered by Damone Clark who ran it back a ways.

Just rewatched the 4th quarter…Clark was so freaking bad it was unbelievable. Both touchdown drives were single handedly facilitated by Clark. He got played so freaking bad on a screen play. Teams are going to scheme this guy you fools have no clue.

No. You are so off with that.

The game plan was to play back and allow them yards. Literally allow them to hit short passes and runs.

(Also, in terms of PFF grades, those should be looked at with extreme skepticism. The fact that they graded the whole fricking Baylor O-line as 99.9 is absurd. People use those "grades" without knowing who's doing the grading, what the grading system is. It's putting an objective number on a subjective view of games. At times, they may be somewhat accurate, but they are off the mark at times too. I know it kind of matches up to people's "video game experience" of football. But real football is much different than video game ratings.)

This is what we have been saying. he gets tackles but never at the line of scrimmage. People see 14 tackles and why are you so hard on the guy? This is why because he is never in the right place to make a tackle at line or for a loss. You ain't beating good teams with mlb play like this.

Wish he was meaner. Wish he was making tackles at or behind LOS. Just not in his DNA

You cant be this dense to truly believe the defense was to specifically watch a player give up THIRTEEN tackles that resulted in 4-10 yard gains on 1st or 2nd down. There's 5 first downs given up in there. He literally had ONE tackle in that entire 15 tackle group that resulted in a win for the defense, a 0 yard stop. Giving up 5 yards on 1st and 10 is not a good play. An offense will take that literally every time. He didnt have 1 3rd down stop in the entirety of his actions plays. Unless you want to count being extremely lucky to get the fumble forced by the best player that day on our defense - Cordale Flott.

Speaking of Cordale Flott, let's see how he played comapred to Clark since the object of the defense was to always give up chunk plays to the offense according to you.

Flott was targeted 8 times and allowed 5 catches for just 35 yards, he had a pick and a forced fumble. That's a 74.3 NCAA passer rating against (32.8 NFL rating). Here's Flott's action plays:

[1] 2 and 5 at MSU30 Rogers,Will pass complete to Heath,Malik for 13 yards to the MSU43 (Flott,Cordale), 1ST DOWN.
[2] 3 and 4 at LSU37 Rogers,Will pass complete to Heath,Malik for 7 yards to the LSU30 fumbled by Heath,Malik at LSU37 forced by Flott,Cordale recovered by LSU Clark,Damone at LSU30 Clark,Damone return 35 yards to the MSU35 (Polk,Makai).
[3] 3 and 8 at MSU38 Rogers,Will pass complete to Johnson,Dillon for 5 yards to the MSU43 (Burns,Major Flott,Cordale).
[4] 2 and 5 at LSU25 Rogers,Will pass intercepted by Flott,Cordale at LSU11, End Of Play.
[5] 1 and 10 at MSU25 Rogers,Will pass complete to Walley,Jaden for 2 yards to the MSU27 (Flott,Cordale).
[6] 1 and 10 at LSU34 Johnson,Dillon rush for 1 yard gain to the LSU33 (Burns,Major Flott,Cordale).
[7] 1 and 10 at LSU21 Rogers,Will pass complete to Polk,Makai for 6 yards to the LSU15 (Flott,Cordale).
[8] 3 and 2 at MSU33 Rogers,Will pass complete to Ford,Christian for 9 yards to the MSU42 (Burns,Major Flott,Cordale), 1ST DOWN.
[9] 1 and 10 at MSU34 Rogers,Will pass complete to Heath,Malik for 1 yard to the MSU35 (Burns,Major Flott,Cordale).

So in those 9 plays, he picked off a pass, forced a fumble, had 4 other defensive stop type of plays (1 yard on 1st/10 tackle, anotehr 1 yard on 1st/10 tackle, 2 yards on 1st/10 tackle, 5 yards on 3rd/8 tackle).

So 6 of 9 action plays for Flott he was involved in a defensive stop or forcing a turnover. Compared to 1 of 15 for Clark.

I guess Flott didnt get the memo about always allowing 4+ yards on every 'play' he made.

It's an unbiased source which brings clarity to situations like this. Are they always 100% factually correct? No, it's an opinion based on every snap a player played. It is up for debate, but it certainly brings an unbiased source into the equation.

The SEC office doesnt even watch these games, they stat watch like many of you do and go "oh wow a 15 tackle game, dude must have played great! SEC Defensive player of the week!"...when the reality is basically no one after or during the game on here was sitting on here posting about Clark's amazing huge day he had...because he didnt really do much of anything other than get lucky on a forced fumble created by someone else, and then make a bunch of tackles after wins for the offense anyways.

Look, I think Clark is definitely improved from last year, but dont tell me you got a chuckle upon first seeing he got SEC defensive player of the week for his performance against MSU when everyone was raving about Flott during and after the game. Clark got a 51.3 PFF grade for that game, Flott was over an 85. It was clear as day to anyone who actually watched the game who had the best game defensively. Clark also missed 2 tackles and got 2 penalties to add to his day...it really wasnt a day to write home about. He's had MANY better games than that one in his career.

Thunderbird, you spent a good bit of time on that, and it is spot-on.

But that’s what makes the human condition so infuriating. People come to differing conclusions based on the same observations.

Flott won the day. Clark merely didn’t lose it.

You were again way off.

You are confused about some common terms and ideas. A "chunk" play is a big gain. So you've got that completely backwards. The game plan was to prevent those, not give them up.

The game plan was to allow the short passes (and runs), then get to ball carriers and tackle. So based on that game plan, Clark did have a really good game.

You don't need to copy and paste from the box score. Anyone can look at it formatted better than what you're pasting.

You're off on the PFF "grade". The number was 85.1. Not that I think that means a whole lot.

I think Flott played really well too. Both had good games. I was glad to see Clark get some recognition, though.

Also, you don't know what the "SEC office" is watching.

Clark was graded out by PFF at 47.7, the worst player on LSU's defense last week
