Sounds like they opened up the checkbook for Wade's staff budget.

More like people probably actually want to work for Wade.

The last guy had to resort to program retreads and alumni because he had lame duck status.

Don't need JJ on this Staff with the hiring of Stoudamire. Get another coach that can actually coach, a la Stansbury. Don't need "Used Car Salesmen" any longer with NIL.

This might come as a bit of a shock to some, but as HC he did a pretty good job of "fundraising" (unless you thought guys like Martin, Mickey, Quarterman, Simmons, Blakeney, etc came to LSU just out of the love for the school). Jones has been involved in LSU basketball in some capacity for nearly 20 years. He has relationships with people, wealthy people, who have shown a willingness to support LSU basketball financially.

Before you can offer any NIL money you need the funds to do so. THAT is why Jones is on staff (along with his Texas connections)

If anything, I'd say Stoudamire is the odder hire. He's been a D-1 college HC for 7 full seasons. In that time he's only had ONE winning season. I'm not quite sure what he really brings to the table.

I think a lot of people legitimately believe this and that this is a key element of the sophomoric Will Wade hate takes.

No they don't. It's to hide the ACTUAL reasons they don't like Wade and basketball in general.

PG play is why he’s here. Wade works mostly with the guards but Stoudamire will help with individual coverage recognition for the P&R stuff we run. Thats one area where Wade’s first go around lacked. Our timing wasn’t always good in P&R and usually is a little poor at the college level.

His GT teams were really bad offensively and often in the bottom 1/3rd in the nation in TOs. He, Stoudamire, may have been a really good PG. But the teams he's coached haven't been particularly great offensively. Just because a guy was a really good player doesn't mean he's a good coach. In fact, it's often the opposite.

Jones made sense. Stansbury does to a degree. I'm not so sure about Stoudamire. He doesn't have any contacts to LSU, Louisiana, or the SEC in general. His teams as a HC have never been good (compared to Stansbury and Jones who at least made several NCAA Tournament appearances). His recruiting classes at GT were not particularly good. Maybe Wade just wants some type of contact to the Atlanta area?

Wade should get the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. But on the surface the move seems odd

Yeah, I never was a big believer that Stans was a great bench coach. I think he was and is a bit overrated in that regard. Thought he was middle of the road average at best as an X and O guy.
