Don't normally take second looks at losses but.

Bama rushed for 0.2 yards per carry. 308 total yards and 302 were thrown by Bryce Young.

Still lost but the D line is supposed to be even better this year.

Food for thought. We're going to kill the run game .

Once the light went on for Mike Jones, Jr. last year, the defense started playing much better.

ETA: I meant Clarke, but the same is true about Jones.

That was a hell of a game for a team that had a shitty year.

The fake punt was awesome

Would have won if Max Johnson was a serviceable quarterback
That game was still hilarious to watch though.

Y’all underestimate the loss of Neil Farrell and Damone Clark. Farrell was a one man wrecking crew in the run game.

Interim Coach O is his best incarnation, it is known.

Agreed with both. The run defense worries me this year. Mike jones is not nearly as physical as damone clark.

No one on the current team is neil farrell.

We blitzed that game with no fear of losing. Rarely do we play anyone with that much disregard for defending the pass. Alabama was also very mediocre on OL.

Well they should have lit up our defense with Dwight and Evans at cb. Dwight is Arkansas #4 cb. We were missing so many starters that game.

Once Daronte Jones decided to play an aggressive attacking D the defense actually played well last season.

Once again we get the myth that Clark just learned to play football halfway through last season...

Damone was an underrated stud... much like kendall Beckwith and Kelvin Shepperd...

You mean once Oregron decided to abandon his dream of resurrecting the late 80's Miami defense and allowed his DC to actually adapt to football in 2021 did LSU play well.

LSU had a solid defense in 2019. It was terrible in 2020 and not all that much better in 2021...until Ole Miss blew out LSU and Kiffin essentially told O his defense sucked. There was only ONE common denominator...Ed Orgeron. Damone Clark didn't go from a guy who was constantly out of position for 1.5 years to suddenly one of the SEC's best LBs by accident. It was he, and the rest of the defense, being let free of Orgeron actually having any input in the defensive approach.

I'm not saying Jones was a great DC. But the reality is any DC would have failed under Orgeron because it was Orgeron dictating the overall approach. The moment he decided to stop letting coordinators fully control their sides of the ball is the moment his career at LSU went to shite.

Something similar to that defense was likely always there prior to the Bama game. It just took Orgeron being out of the way to find it

That is why I'm bullish on LSU this year. They no longer have that buffoon on the sideline thinking he knows more about the game than being a DL coach.

lsu just did NOT blitz before that game. they looked completely different. I think they blitzed something like 65% of the plays vs alabama.

wondering how aggressive house is going to be

Johnson idiotic INT led to a TD before half, TDP fumbled on a promising drive that led to a quick strike TD for Bama. On top of Johnson missing every throw in the 4th quarter. 3 FGs in the fourth and we win that game in hindsight.

Also Cam Lewis played out of his mind

Had we won that game. Bama would have been a 2 loss SEC champ and Georgia would still be 1 loss. Would UGA have gotten in but not Bama?

LSU outplayed Bama last year and had no business losing. Max's ineptitude came into full relief that night. Even so LSU could have pulled that game out if they just had left things up to Cade York on the last three Tiger possessions.

6-5 Auburn then essentially replicated that approach and held Alabama to 3 points until a last minute drive got the game to OT. The irony is in BOTH games LSU's QBs from the 2020 season were the weak links wasting those great defensive performances.

Alabama went from averaging nearly 43 ppg in its 5 prior SEC games plus Miami, to scoring 20 and 10 (in regulation) vs. LSU and Auburn.
