We should not name things after people who are in the Hall of Very Good.

All of this stinks. The fact the court was named after him, the process by which it happened, and the recent stupidity.

I know in the big picture this doesnt matter, but it is a perfect microcosm of all that is wrong with LSU and this state.

Dale built the LSU basketball program up from nothing. When he got to LSU in the 70s, there had been only a couple of good seasons, most during Pistol Pete’s time. I don’t like his recent criticisms of Wade, but at the same time I also think his critics fail to appreciate what he did to make LSU respectable in basketball. And for those efforts, I do think he deserves to have his name on the court. The 1981 final four team was also a truly great team, not just very good. That may have been the best LSU basketball team in the school’s history.

Fingers crossed that this is the last Dale Brown thread. He's gotten more attention than he deserves. No mas.

Other than (and maybe including) the Pistol Pete Maravich days, Dale created and presided over the greatest era in the history of LSU basketball. I know because I was there. I went to the Final Four in Philly in 1981 as a student. The court should be named after him. Period.
I don't have a vote , nor do I have enough money to influence a vote. Nothing against Sue Gunther but Joe Dean once told her that the only reason she wasn't getting fired was because no one cared enough about women's basketball enough to complain that she had a dismal record.
Nothing against woman's basketball. I am all in on this team. If Mulkey wins the national championship, I will lead the charge to have her name put on the court.

Having what you consider possibly the best team in school history not win a title and not having a title to your name 100% does not qualify you for anything remotely close to having a court named after you. Thanks for bringing that objectivity to my thought process on this issue

I don't like to make excuses but I will make an exception here. The thing that cost us the title in 1981 was that Rudy Macklin broke his finger in one of the greatest games in the history of LSU basketball, the regional finals in the Superdome before what was probably the biggest crowd that will ever watch an LSU basketball game. I was there.

iirc, LSU actually led that 1981 semi-final at half-time in Philly against Indiana.

Indiana then came out strong in the second half and gained great momentum. Brown should have used a timeout or two right then and there to try to turn things around. I was screaming at the TV for Brown to call a fricking time out!!!

Brown said later that he was waiting for the TV timeout instead of using one of his own. Big mistake. Indiana had gained a significant lead and LSU never recovered.

One of the most disappointing days in my life in terms of watching sports. LSU could have and should have won that tournament in '81.

Yeah, and it wasn’t very good. If Kim Mulkey wins a title they should get rid of Dele and Gunter, and replace with Mulkey.

LSU final four team in 1981 had two key players hurt going into the game with Indiana.

I was at the game, Thomas should have had 2 more changing fouls just before the half, Ethan took the changers as he was quicker than Thomas. But the refs called blocking both times, and this was not even close.

Little remembered fact, we did not come out of the locker room at half in time to warm up. I always thought that was a big mistake. Who does that?

Shaq won player of the year. That’s gotta count for something. Also he paid for a large part of the practice facility next to it.

Teams from the south not named Kentucky never got a fair whistle in the 60s, 70s or 80s in the big dance.
