I get the logic of swallowing a whistle as time expires on the opposite end of the court. I even agree with it in principle. Too bad Grant Williams foul was so over the top it couldn’t be ignored.

Grant Williams is a little floppin bitch who needs his arse whipped.

So Smart couldn't try a 3/4 court hail mary to win the game? That was clearly a foul and prevented Smart from trying to heave a hail mary which we have seen go in before on ESPN top 10 many times.

What a sad public melt. Weird AF but whatever.

Since he's busy talking about unwritten rules in basketball, let's talk about what happened to home court officiating? LSU hasn't gotten that in quite a few games.
You can watch any other team in the nation play on tv, and see them getting calls left and right on their home court. Meanwhile, our officials are so fricking scared to death to give LSU a call, they have to run to the monitor every 30 seconds to review it.

It was the right call and LSU closed out the game.

I can tell you this too. Williams, as has been mentioned already, hit Skylar on the back of the head with a forearm on his 3-point shot at the end of regulation. No call. I also reviewed Bigby-Williams’ tip in at the end of overtime and once again Williams should have been called for a foul hitting Bigby-Williams in the chest and on his left arm.
You want to go even further, Williams drew a foul on Reid late in the game on a baseline jumper when he landed from the jump shot and then proceeded to hip check Reid, who had jumped to the side of Williams on the block attempt. It is clear as day in the replay.
Where’s the Foul on Reid?

The premise that referees should be watching the clock but not the game is ridiculous - as if there should be a signal that no whistles will be blown once the time is less than whatever arbitrary amount the loser thinks was adequate so that they don't lose.

How do you get the "logic" of swallowing the whistle? When are the referees supposed to stop watching the game in order to see how much time is left on the clock?

LOL. Refs "swallow the whistle" EVERY SINGLE GAME. Are you new to sports? New to human psychology?

Moving on, the W is booked and we are looking forward. Let's drop the BOOM on the next opponent.

Funny. I didn't see him mention the 4x that one ref went to the monitor to try and change the outcome of the game on calls THEY made. Ridiculous

It was favorable call for us but the Vols weren't robbed. There is no unwritten rule that refs should swallow their whistles. If I recall correctly, the '89 NCAA Championship won by Michigan was on a last second call that was iffy at best and it happens all the time.
Regardless, the ref is following the action and he doesn't know the exact time on the clock. He reacted to what he saw, a foul.
Boo hoo. The final result is an LSU win and a Tennessee whine (loss) in the record books.

Daily Caller is a hack news source as it is, not surprising

We all got robbed of those 37 minutes of official review time that we will never get back.

Exactly. He fouled the shite out of him and jarred the ball loose.
