Auburn has a very strong program right now. They are more and more of a basketball school with each passing year. And, yes, having a sucky football team affects this.

The officiating of the game definitely contributed to the crowd noise last night. Not sure what it looked like on TV but it seemed like LSU got the bad end of many calls. We had a guy next to us yell F--K You! to the refs about 20 times.

The transition from Auburn to LSU on TV last night made our crowd look like a morgue. Not saying they didn't get loud, just saying that was a tough act to follow. I wish our fans would stand more. I wish we made more noise when the other team has the ball. Alas, I wish I'd have gone to the game and realize I'm part of the problem. I'll try and do better.
Can we stop with this damn Auburn slobbering every time there is crowd reference. They have a cracker box gym which is filled because they have been successful for the first time. Good for them, but there is only one Deaf Dome and LSU has the best basketball tradition in the SEC except Kentucky. Lets act like the proud program we are and stop polishing the Auburn nascent success.

Exactly. When we're good, no one has a better atmosphere than us. Maybe UK when they're on.

My biggest complaint is I wish the crowd could be into the game from the tip. I sit in 210 and am usually the only one standing yelling. When the tigers score on a big play or dunk and everyone gets on their feet for defense one bucket will sit everyone down. Even with less than 2 minutes to go in a tight game half my section was sitting.
Having said that crowd was great down the stretch last night

Of course it matters.

Fukin students are not needed. They sold their tix for a hot dog and coke and that’s what you got. Students section at basketball always very overrated

Well my biggest complaint is that freak who screamed and shrieked every time someone shot the ball

I was there. 70-75% full is “empty”?

This.
Obviously you need actual numbers to make a real difference, but moving the students to the baseline was a mistake. The bar for student/fan buy-in is Duke. They have loud wooden based roll out bleachers that reach the edge of the court. The first row of the PMAC is separated from the court by two rows of press tables and a walkway. Even the baseline student section is 30 feet from the court with nazi marshals galore.
Why does LSU need 3-4 times the amount of press row/game official seating as Duke? Granted, this is a covid photo of the PMAC, but fan seating is unchanged.

This is so true. The PMAC configuration just doesn’t lend itself to a feeling of immense fan presence.
People have mentioned Auburn as a comparison- I’ve been to 3 away games at Auburn in the past 6 years, and regardless of how well their team is doing, it is always LOUD, very loud. The Auburn arena has seating near edge of court and it slopes up at a steep angle giving the feeling of fans very close, almost on top of the court. I’m not sure how to describe it, but I guess more “intimate”. It’s a smaller arena and everyone is packed in. They also have a standing room area around the arena behind the top seats. Acoustically, it’s just configured to be louder.
By contrast, the PMAC very gradually slopes away, the shape of it is almost cavernous. A spectator feels further away from the action, so is less pulled into it. The players feel the difference.
They also do things differently as far as running a game goes, and it definitely impacts Auburn’s fan involvement in games:
1. Their announcer is loud and energetic, he will start crowd chants etc. We have……Dan Borne.
2. They have prominent crowd song/chant/actions traditions and most people participate.
3. Their cheerleaders are not really as much “entertainers on the court”, but are more directly interactive with the crowd, much closer than our cheerleaders, who seem too far away on the court.
4. Their band doesn’t play as often as ours does. They have loud upbeat music as well and it seems to encourage crowd engagement and momentum.
5. The crowd keeps up the noise level and engagement during time outs, because they don’t have their band playing or cheerleaders “performing” as often. By contrast, our spectators go quiet during timeouts. Even if there’s been exciting play with the crowd getting into it, it stops during timeouts. Loses momentum and it often takes an exciting play to get everyone going again. Stop and start.
I sometimes think that perhaps our band conductor could notice if the crowd is roaring and cheering when game stops for timeouts and not interrupt their yelling by starting to play, thus silencing the crowd???
They just do things differently at Auburn. I think it’s all about the kind of fan experience a university and fans want. We have a fabulous band and maybe everyone would rather listen to them in timeouts?
I was at the game last night and it was a noisy atmosphere a lot of the time. Everyone around my seating area was on their feet for a good part of the second half. I don’t think crowd noise always comes across in LSU games on TV - the broadcasters are close to the action and fans are quite far behind them.
And, I will point out, that some of the people who are criticising lack of crowd noise on TV, should actually come to games and contribute to the noise, if they are able to.

It looked great on tv. Well done fans.

All of these "final possession" games stress me out...to the extent that I'm too tense to make as much noise as I should. Prolly need a stent by tournament time.

When’s the last time you’ve been to a basketball game? The picture you show is from the covid year. The press moved to an upper section last year. Courtside seating is all TAF donors and a small table for the TV crew.

Last year. I didn't notice they had moved the double press row but you are right, they did relocate those guys. Look like the removed a large portion of the table/adverstising boards from the sidelines across from the benches as well.
Its a start, but the point remains, there still needs to be an effort to get more fans closer to the action, especially students.

Thank you. Auburn has a great atmosphere, but people forget how small their arena is. We had a couple thousand more fans at the PMAC than they did at their sold out arena last night and the PMAC was only a little over 3/4 full because the students are all at home. Just wait until the students get back.

Didn’t they move the blue hairs further back? Or at least move some students down front court side?
Where were you? Not in the PMAC

As a season ticket holder who has been to most of the home games this year I was SHOCKED to see how many people showed up. The two games before Arkansas had almost no students attending. Yes, I know they are out on semester break. But I'm willing to guess that of the 500k people in the metro BR area, at least a few thousand are LSU students. You're telling no more than 15 couldn't drag themselves to a game for two hours?
Needless to say, while I was expecting the biggest crowd of the year to date, I didn't think it would be that full. McMahon and the players definitely appreciated it. In his postgame press conference he made reference to how awesome it was to see a large crowd when he walked down the tunnel to the court.
