Correct me if I'm wrong, but are baseball players allowed to be drafted and return?

Seems like I always hear about baseball players coming out of high school and getting drafted, then deciding to go the college route instead.
Am i wrong about that? And if not, why is that allowed?
Also: the SEC just started a legal shitstorm. These players left for the NFL fighting for a spot on a practice squad hoping to make a couple thousand a week (at best a roster spot and the league minimum), because they thought they couldn't stay in college and that was their only option.
Chambliss knew he couldn't stay in college and sued to stay in because he knows he's not going to make it in the NFL and that he's never going to make the salary that Ole Miss is paying him in the NFL.
The 2 being banned left because they thought they were following the rules, and the one being permitted to play said "frick the rules."
That's a good lesson for the SEC to teach kids

You don’t have option to have name withdrawn from MLB draft like football. Just need to be draft eligible.

Well that’s just not true at all.
We had 5 (?) withdraw from the draft. 1 returning player (Milam) and 4 incoming freshmen

Partially correct. MLB does not require a player to declare for the draft. A player can request to be removed.
NFL and NBA require a player to declare, and by doing so that player forgoes any remaining eligibility unless they withdraw from the draft by the deadline set by the NCAA.
Historically signing a professional contract would also remove eligibility for that player in that sport. This has all been sent cockeyed by the Colorado ruling granting the freshman class of 2022 a 5th year of eligibility and the Baton Rouge TRO restoring the eligibility of players who signed professional contracts with the argument they wouldn’t have done so if they knew they would have another year of college eligibility.

Today's issue is not about declaring for a draft. It is about signing a pro contract and getting paid by a pro team in the US. There is plenty to debate. The NCAA did a piss poor job of implementing their rules and created a mess.

There’s no official process or paperwork for the MLB draft. They are just telegraphing to teams not to waste a pick because they aren’t leaving this year. And that’s often because the know how much money they are looking at and think they can do better a year later.

Right
Plus, there was no option for those seniors (who thought they were out of eligibility at the time) to formally withdraw from NFL draft.
The problem with all of this is the timing of 5 for 5. NCAA announced it on June 23, 2026, which benefitted some athletes and screwed over others.
WNBA Draft - April 13
NFL Draft - April 23
NBA Draft - June 23
NHL Draft - June 26
MLB Draft - July 11
The NCAA should have announced 5 for 5 in February right after college football championship or sat on the decision until December and not created this shitstorm for the upcoming football season.
This is all a result of the NCAA continuing to be totally inept at everything it does.
