Just young men themselves the players are probably not offended by STTDB, but i imagine it's the catchy tune that gets them fired up more than STTDB.

For the last half a decade I’ve been saying they should just replace Neck with Let It Go.

STTDB is only a few years old. Maybe 4-5 years old? I think it was right around the time they added the "you suck, Cocks" to the Oh Wee Oh chant against USCe in 2012.

STTDB is older than that. I was a student in 2012 and it was already a thing.

It’s kind of sad that is what is chanted with it.

Surely there is something else that hits just as hard that isn’t so vulgar & degrading. Hard to go back on that with the steam it has gained.

Kids hear it, woman hear it. Not great for the masses

Love the idea of it but wish we a different chant could accompany it so it's not just flat out vulgar in front of women and kids...I just can't get past that. Sorry.

Both were well before 2012. SG handed out stickers trying to stem the tide on oweo to be oweo-tigers instead of oweo you suck. It was actually kinda funny because the bookstore was actually actively selling shirts that said beat the cocks

It’s crude and it’s juvenile, but it’s still pretty damned funny - it was especially amusing to hear the TV commentators mention it.

Would love to know the percentage of people that find it acceptable on Saturday’s and sit on the front rows at Church on Sundays denouncing such behavior. Unfortunately it’s the way of the world we live in. Heck. Wait for the downvoting and negative comments to show my point taken.

I think it is funny as hell. I even bought a shirt.

How the Admin can say anything, when they blare B$tch I'm From Louisiana every game and allow locker room hype videos to gangster rap, is beyond me.

It’s a major negative for the LSU brand. The lyrics are vulgar and shows an immense lack of class and decorum. Because of it’s extreme popularity now, it would be almost impossible to stop it. I would support some type of initiative (campaign) on the part of the LSU administration, including coaches, to highly discourage against singing it and suggesting alternative lyrics to fans that oppose it. You may have enough fans that do oppose it to effectively “drown out”, if you will, the STTDB part.

The arrangement that LSU uses for Neck is maybe the best non-traditional marching band song in college football. Tiger Band plays it a little louder, slower, and dirtier than other bands, and it fits the moment perfectly.

They didn't play the song until the 2006 season and by 2007 it was THE song to hear and get the crowd (and more importantly the team) hyped up - maybe even more than pregame.

The chants rolled in a few years after, and let's be honest - it's trashy as hell but so are college kids. It is what it is (go see Wisconsin in the 4th quarter, Rama Jama, etc). Might be more crude than some, but it's college kids being idiots.

Of course LSU administration overreacted (as we have been prone to do in many circumstances over the last decade or so) and basically told the band not to play it. Some will remember that this was an issue with "Tiger Rag" back in the day as well - mainly the "assholes, asholes" chant. Of course, when the administration tells the students what they can't do - the students rebel and ramp it up to an even greater degree.

Now the song really doesn't get played much, but anything that remotely sounds like it gets the chant added to it. I have to agree with the OP - it's just funny because of how it has become such a thing. I particularly laugh every time and find it humorous how offended other people get by it.

Ironically the fact that it the phrase is so prevalent with our fan base can be tied back directly to the administration's handling of it in the first place. The chant will (and has) far out-lived the song itself.

Should have just let the band play Neck.

Leave it in the student section. Don’t like some random person 3 seats down yelling it solo. I do love it in the student section though.
