Faneca has had epilepsy since he was 15. His daughter has a rare form of it. He has taken meds for it since he was diagnosed. CBS Sports recently interviewed him about it. Great former Tiger !!

Kevin Mawae is my favorite Center all time (other greats Wilkerson, Cushenberry, and others). But that's for another day.

Faneca was a bad arse, blow you up, make you want to get out of the way OG I've watched at LSU. Dude was great!

I believe Andolsek would have been mentioned with Faneca,Mawae as an NFL great had he not died so tragically. Andolsek is still top 5 all-time Oline at LSU. Guy was a beast.

I have no idea about Faneca and John Curtis.

He definitely went to JC for middle and junior high. I was there at the same time just a few grades back.

These guys mentioned may have been good centers, but Jack Joubert is the best artist of all former Tiger centers.

It says he also played for John Curtis

He was at Curtis for Elementary school. We were in the same grade. I remember him being an LSU fan back then; when Coach Corey would break us up into teams for PE, Alan would call the team he was on the LSU Tigers.

I can confirm Alan Fanaca graduated from Lamar Consolidated. I taught him there his senior year.

I can confirm that Alan Faneca went to JC up until Jr High. We both lived on the westbank and I believe he was going in to the 8th grade and JT Curtis asked me to drop him off at K&B where his Mom would pick him up so he could attend spring football practice with us. He was a chubby redheaded kid and I was a Junior and when he asked me for rides I told him no. Then JT brings me in his office and says hey man I need you to give this kid a ride home from practice he is going to be special. Then one day he told me thanks for the rides but I am moving to Houston.

Lol I love him too but Faneca is the best Olineman at any position I ever saw at LSU and I don’t have to think twice about that.

I had the pleasure of spotting Mawae on bench in the rec one day shortly before the draft. And had Kerry Sauley's MGMT 3200 with Faneca. Both nice guys and very strong MFers!

I remember a sales mgr for Riddell, who lived in Houston, tell a story about Faneca's first workout at Lamar Consolided. They had heard about this O lineman transferring in from New Orleans, but figured he would quickly find out that things would be a lot more difficult in Texas hs football. He said they all realized after one workout that Alan would do just fine in Texas!

Best offensive lineman in LSU history in my opinion. You usually don't notice offensive lineman.... you noticed Faneca. He would block his man and then go get someone at the next level.
