Is it too late to get him a return flight to Tuscalooser?

I can't help but feel a bit sorry for the guy. He just got here and he's gotta know that the majority of the fans aren't pleased with his being hired.

I fricking knew it!!!!

There was no way that Les and Alleva are competent enough or willing to make a good hire.

Good to know da mad quitter is on his way out in the next couple years coasting to retirement.

After hearing that LSU was getting interest from several NFL defensive coaches, you think that Steele is the best we could've done? Seriously?

You don't replace one of the most respected DCs in the country with a freaking position coach who's been a failure at every other job he's had.

This is an epic fail by Miles and Alleva. The sooner both of them are gone from LSU, the better.

The sad thing: Brick would have been a more positive move.

Steele? Ugh. just not a smart move.

We could all be wrong, for sure, if he just hasn't been given the right opportunity. The even worse fear is Miles calling the defense...

Yes, I was not enamored with Brick, but would have preferred him to Steele.

I am disappointed in that I heard Steele's name mentioned early quite a bit, then heard it none of the time. And then the names of DC's with better track records and success both in college and in the NFL surfaced--who knows, maybe all that was a smokescreen?

Then today, some got their hopes up that LSU was making a serious bid to hire away another KS from 'Bama, Kirby Smart, the coordinator, who would have had enthusiastic support. But then the dismal reality hit.

I also didn't have Steele on my wish list, but Brick was his DC during some of his disastrous tenure at Baylor, correct?

Feeling a bit like I’m in a time warp…watch out for the new “DROP” Jack Rabbit Linebacker competition in the spring.

I get what you're saying, but damn.
LSU is supposed to be one of the top jobs in the country in a sea of football talent. The DC leaves the SECs best statistical defense largely intact. Big names were immediately throw around.

And we hire a positional coach from Bama with a terrible dc/hc resume?

Either we A: didn't want to spend top dollars on a DC, B: everyone else we asked said no, or C: think that coaches are not important and if you out a group of players together they'll just automatically be awesome.

This is the equivalent of another SEC team hiring Frank Wilson as their OC
Highly paid position coach who is highly paid because of recruiting

If they didn't want to give Chavis the extension and money because of his age, why go after this 56 year old?

What success has he had? Please don't say the LB's at Bama cuz any one of these rantards could have coached that talent.

Why hire him now? Why didn't they hire him previously? They needed to get a DC before next weekend. I think this was desperate.

Tough times ahead...

Bama gets our 5-stars

LSU gets the assistant to the assistant to lead the Defense.

Steele has been a failure everywhere he has been.

Re the "time warp" comment: as I recall, LSU hired DiNardo after his last game as HC at Vandy, a game in which UT lit him up for 60 points or so. Today, LSU hires Steele, who in his last game as DC for Clemson, his defense gave up 70 points. DiNardo ended up being a bust. Have we traveled back in time again?

Here is an interesting read on Steele as a recruiter and DC at Clemson.
