You can transfer to FCS division (formerly 1-AA, II, III) without sitting a year.

Stephen F. Austin slings it around a lot. It could be hard for him to immediately win the starting job outright there. They had a Sophomore QB start this year and these are the numbers he put up...

352 for 598, 58.9%, 4026 yards, 41 TD, 20 INT

Great question but I know the guy there turned it over way less than Lee did (per pass attempts).

20 INT in 598 attempts = 1 INT every 29.9 attempts

vs.

16 INT in 269 attempts = 1 INT every 16.8 attempts

DD is not reporting that Lee is transfering, only that there is "talk." In other words, your guess is as good as his.

It's a sad day when DD starts using "The Rant" as a source for LSU information.

The one thing about the bowl game that I was disappointed with was that at the end of the game Coach should have allowed JL a few snaps if only to hand the ball off so that he could feel good. If the coach didn't feel good enough about me to at least do that, then I don't think I would want to come back

AMF, (jk) good luck to him. He tried his best and is a good kid. I hope he finds success wherever he goes.

its the mistake free ball that he played that has everybody impressed.
"Mistake free"? I love the way Jefferson looked in the bowl game, but completing less than 50% of your passes and throwing a pick is hardly "mistake free" ball.

I don't know if people realize this, but even with Jefferson's awesome bowl performance and Lee's 16 picks, Jefferson still had a lower passer rating than Lee this year. He looks great at the moment, and awesome for the future, but not because he never made mistakes. He made some.

Personally, I hope Lee stays because I think it is VERY likely that he will be strong contributor to some major college football team before his career is over, and I just hope it is ours.

Rick Clausen in orange on a Monday night still haunts me.

I can see that, and it might have been worth it. But I also like the idea of giving Jefferson as much work as possible, and also giving him the moment of finishing off the bowl game that was clearly his from the start. Giving Lee some face-time reps would have been a nice gesture to him for his season of work, but could also have been taken as a slight by Jefferson to lead us with such success only to have the other guy step in. It could have gone either way, imo.

Just ask Bama fans about QB's who aren't that statistically impressive, but don't turn the ball over. Couple that with a stong running game (that has a grand total of 2 turnovers in 2 seasons), and that's tough to beat.

I wish JL success whatever he decides to do. I think Spring Ball will be his last stand. If he doesn't show marked improvement by then and take the job back, then he either faces a lot of bench time or will have to transfer to play. If we are going to go back to more of a spread option approach, then JL doesn't really fit. Also, if Crowton decides to use RS in the RP role, then does it make sense to split practice reps three ways? There are only so many to go around. If RS sees the field, then he needs to be groomed as the #2. JJ and JL are playing for 1 and 3 in my opinion.

Not that we have control over it, but this is dangerous thinking. We are one JJ sprained ankle away from being fricked.

...not to be a jerk but aren't we in this same situation WITH JL as the back-up?

I was with SFA's OC while watching our bowl game. FWIW, he didn't mention anything about JL transferring to SFA then.

he couldn't since it would be an ncaa violation.

if he transfers before at least giving it 1 more spring it would only make me further question the kid's decision making

I truly wish him well, he is a terrific kid, who was put in a pressure cooker situation. He should have been pulled out and JJ put in long before he was. But, the difference sometimes is
the style and temperament under pressure. Good athletes can perform best under presure, Lee never adapted to that, Jefferson stepped right in and looked like a comfortable old shoe right off the bat....LEE we love you for what you did do for LSU, good luck in whatever endeavors you pursue.

They were very excited about him being at LSU and having the opportunity to start

It is amazing how people forget about how much players appreciate and value the opportunity to play football for a college. Lee came here to be a Tiger and to get a college education, maybe go to the NFL if he was lucky. No one should disrespect Lee for that. I think that as of right now, Jefferson is a better QB and I am excited about the future. But everbody should let Lee have his dignity. At least let him go into spring with a chance to compete for a spot on this team.

Absolutely agree. I think he should be given every opportunity to retake his job. I don't see it happening, but he should get the chance.
