What do the rating services base their rankings on? There are teams in the conference with better conference records than we have and equal to slightly better overall records. Yet we are ranked ahead of Vandy, Florida etc. What are they looking at each week when the rankings come out?

Maybe they rank the team that they think is the best team in the number one spot.

I'm not sure though.

You’ve done it. Some people on this board care a whole lot about being ranked #1 even though it doesn’t matter at all

LSU schedule hold weight
They beat ark 2/3 and have won all series
They are not gonna drop lsu until they have a reason to
Vandy Fla ark usc are all right there if lsu does slip up
Ull coild be an issue this week with lsu using as much pitching as they did and not wanting to burn arms before ole miss
You might see Dutton or hellmers start
Ole miss is still a dangerous team especially if Elliot is ready to come back

I feel like most informed fans aren’t really concerned about retaining that #1 ranking. A top 8 seed… now that’s a different story.

Probably the fact that we have now 5 top 15 series wins and no other team has that. Well technically 4 and 1 tie.

LSU is 7-4 against the top half of the conference and 9-5 against the top 8. Florida is 0-0 against the top half. Vandy is 1-1. Florida went 2-1 against Tennessee like LSU and Vandy is currently 1-1 against SC like LSU. LSU is the only team with a winning record against the top half of the conference. They have 4 series wins and a split against the top 8. Only Tennessee and Georgia have even one series win against the top half. The others have just feasted on the bottom feeders.

Being ranked #1 preseason helps a lot. Also, in college baseball the difference between 1 or 2 wins/losses isn’t that big of a deal. You can’t think of it like football records.

We’ll likely be #1 until we lose a series.

That does not necessarily mean we are the best team in the country. We might be, but we started #1 and it’s unlikely they’re going to drop us until there is a reason to do so (ie a series loss)

So far with winning every series (tying one) and playing a very tough SEC schedule, hard to drop lsu when most believed preseason that we’re #1 and given no indication yet that we shouldn’t be #1

Because baseball voters aren’t as reactionary as football voters. Football voters drop the #10 ranked team when they lose to the #3 team by a last second field goal, and by default the #11 team who beat Northeastern Poly Tech by 35 points moves up a spot.

Baseball voters see the 3 game series as a match, and not just every individual game. LSU hasn’t lost a single series, and as has already been pointed out, we have been playing teams ranked in the top 15 of the country.

The sweeps are on the way as the bottom half of the conference teams are now about to show up on the schedule.

I’m just asking the question. I don’t care as long as we host the super regional.

I think he is asking specifically what makes the difference if it’s close between a few teams.

I’m not sure though

I’m not saying there isn’t anyone, but you’d be hard pressed to find a team that’s played a tougher conference schedule than LSU up to this point.

Our schedule has been frontloaded. But we finish with the Mississippi schools, the Alabama schools, and UGA. Plenty of potential there.

True but football and basketball rankings change from top to bottom with a win or a loss. But of course, they are playing fewer games in football so one loss really matters. I'm not saying we shouldn't be where we are in rankings.
